Job Description

Job Summary:

Under limited supervision and with a high level of autonomy, use specialized knowledge and skills obtained through extensive experience, specialized training, and certification to perform a variety of advanced analytical paralegal or legal support activities that involve the Private Client Group and Retirement, Compensation and Benefits areas (the “assigned functional area(s)”). Provide assistance and support gathering and researching information, preparing opinions and legal documents, recording committee meeting minutes, and maintaining a legal library.

Responsibilities:

  1. Take responsibility for managing and delivering a designated legal case work program.
  2. Conduct research using primary data sources, and select information needed for the analysis of key themes and trends.
  3. Manage basic aspects of the data management system with guidance from senior colleagues to access specific information and to organize and store information related to legal matters.
  4. Edit documents in line with organizational style guidelines and prepare information for publication.
  5. Help others get the most out of internal communications systems by offering support and advice.
  6. Help others get the most out of external communications systems by offering support and advice.
  7. Draft responses to requests for documents and develop processes for streamlining such responses.
  8. Record meeting minutes for various committees.
  9. Liaise with internal support functions (e.g., Compliance, Finance, Risk and Supervision, as well as other lawyers throughout the firm) and business clients, external legal counsel, and senior management preparing for and assisting the preparation of legal documents, case management and other legal services.
  10. Build effective working relationships within the internal client organization, delivering high-quality professional services with guidance from senior colleagues.
  11. Develop own capabilities by participating in assessment and development planning activities as well as formal and informal training and coaching; gain or maintain external professional accreditation, where relevant, to improve performance and fulfill personal potential. Maintain an understanding of relevant technology, external regulation, and industry best practices through ongoing education, attending conferences, and reading specialist media.

Education/Previous Experience:

Associates degree and a minimum of eight (8) years’ progressive experience performing paralegal functions in a law firm or self-regulatory organization, and/or in-house in a related area involving financial services industry. OR An equivalent combination of experience, education, and/or training approved by Human Resources.
