Air Force Materiel Command seeks a skilled paralegal to support attorneys in the Procurement Fraud Law Division. The role emphasizes civil litigation support, complex legal research, and document preparation to advance civil actions, settlements, and related proceedings.
You will assist senior counsel, develop case files for litigation, ADR, and discovery, and participate in formal and informal trainings. The position requires U.S. citizenship and ability to obtain a security clearance.
The primary purpose of this position is to provide legal, technical, and administrative support to attorneys assigned to the Air Force Materiel Command Law Office, Procurement Fraud Law Division (AFMCLO/JAF).
In order to qualify, you must meet the general experience requirements described in the Office of Personnel Management (OPM) Qualification Standards for General Schedule Positions, Clerical and Administrative Support Positions.
Specialized Experience: Applicants must have at least one (1) year of specialized experience at the next lower broadband NH-02, equivalent to the next to lower grade GS-11 or equivalent in the Federal Service. Specialized experience must include performing extensive, multifaceted, multilevel legal research to locate appropriate data; litigation activities to perform the procedural and administrative work such as preparing and editing legal briefs, documents and administrative correspondence, and assembling information for various legal documents and reports; legal services and terminology in the area of claims, civil law, criminal jurisdiction, and legal research techniques.
KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS AND ABILITIES (KSAs): Your qualifications will be evaluated on the basis of your level of knowledge, skills, abilities and/or competencies in the following areas:
1. Must be qualified as a paralegal through education, training, or work experience to perform substantive legal work that requires knowledge of complex legal concepts and is customarily, but not exclusively, performed by an attorney. Substantive shall mean work requiring recognition, evaluation, organization, analysis, and communication of relevant facts and legal concepts.
2. Proven highly developed paralegal experience and skills in support of civil litigation attorneys.
3. Skill at conducting extensive and complex legal research to analyze and verify accuracy of citations; examining all references in briefs and other memoranda; analyzing and identifying legal issues in all cases; and evaluating and interpreting various records and other factual documents.
4. Skill at preparing complex legal instruments, exhibits, charts, metrics, monetary computations, memoranda, statistical analysis, and supporting documents used in litigating cases, answering legal questions, or making legal determinations; drafting legal opinions, processing Discovery and Disclosure requests; prepare and respond to requests for admission, production of documents, interrogatories, and discovery motions; and prepare summary of disclosures and discovery responses.
5. Skill at effective communication, both orally and in writing.
6. Ability to follow instructions and perform all assigned work independently, or with minimal supervision.
7. Ability to maintain current knowledge of changing statutory and regulatory guidance as they relate to the duties of this position; as well as general developments in technology that may improve the effective delivery of legal services.
