Skadden, Arps, Slate, Meagher & Flom LLP seeks a Paralegal (Litigation) to support attorneys with complex tasks, file management, document production and trial prep. The role is based in New York with a hybrid work schedule and no visa sponsorship for this position.

You will coordinate with attorneys and staff across practice areas, maintain client files, conduct non-legal research, and assist with pleadings and depositions while upholding confidentiality and firm policies.

Qualifications

  • Bachelor's degree required.
  • Minimum five years of paralegal experience or similar.
  • Strong research skills using Westlaw, LexisNexis, PACER and related sites.

The Opportunity

We are seeking a Paralegal (Litigation) to join our Firm. Within this position, you will be responsible for providing attorneys, members of the Department and other professional staff with diversified clerical, administrative and case/deal support by handling complex tasks and projects, with limited supervision, throughout all phases and aspects of Litigation/Corporate work. This position will be based in our New York office with a hybrid work schedule. Please note that the Firm will not sponsor applicants for work visas for this position.

  • Handles complex projects with limited supervision.
  • Organizes and manages electronic and paper files.
  • Ensures that all files are maintained within Department-approved protocols and case management systems.
  • Maintains the integrity of client files.
  • Assists with the preparation and/or filing of pleadings, court papers, registration documents, forms, etc., as needed.
  • Assists with retrieval of rules, regulations and company profiles, as needed.
  • Assists with document productions, transactions, and/or closings.
  • Assists with preparation for interviews, depositions, hearings, trials, and/or client meetings.
  • Proofreads briefs, memoranda of law, opinions and other documents, as needed.
  • Performs cross-reference and defined terms checks, as needed.
  • Pulls cases, shepardizes briefs and handles or coordinates cite-checking, as needed.
  • Performs non-legal research using various research tools, including the Internet, Westlaw, LexisNexis, PACER, SEC/EDGAR and other media and financial services sites, and/or other court-related websites for case law, statutes, articles, books, etc.
  • Updates attorney and case/deal team binders.
  • Manages databases in accordance with Firm standards.
  • Assists other paralegals and attorneys across practice areas.
  • Demonstrates strong interpersonal, written and verbal communication skills to facilitate effective work relationships.
  • Manages Firm resources responsibly.
  • Complies with and understands Firm operation, policies and procedures.
  • Performs other related duties, as assigned or needed.
Qualifications
  • Knowledge of relevant Firm computer software programs (e.g., Outlook, Excel, PowerPoint), with the ability to learn new software and operating systems
  • Ability to navigate various electronic databases and document repositories
  • Strong research skills and proficiency in using various research tools, including the Internet, Westlaw, LexisNexis, PACER, SEC/EDGAR, and other court-related websites and/or media and financial services
  • Excellent analytical, troubleshooting, organizational and planning skills
  • Demonstrates effective interpersonal and communication skills, both verbally and in writing
  • Ability to work well independently, as well as effectively, within a team
  • Ability to handle sensitive matters and maintain confidentiality
  • Ability to organize and prioritize work
  • Ability to handle multiple projects and shifting priorities
  • Ability to work well in a demanding and fast-paced environment
  • Ability to work well under pressure

Education and Experience
  • Bachelor's degree
  • Minimum of five years of experience in a paralegal position or a position requiring similar skillset, expertise and experience

The starting base salary for this position is expected to be within the range listed under Salary Details. Actual salary will be determined based on skills, experience (to the extent relevant) and other-job related factors, consistent with applicable law.
