Job description

This career paralegal prepares legal documentation for the ministry and utilizes various legal systems and databases to ensure accuracy, organization, and timely retrieval of legal documents and resources. At this level, the incumbent conducts research and analysis of law sources independently or as part of a team for complex or international legal projects. They may also coach and oversee other paralegals.

What will you do?

  • Maintain a personal relationship with Jesus Christ, be a consistent witness, and uphold Compassion’s ministry in prayer.
  • Advocate for the needs of children, understand Christ’s mandate to protect children, and prioritize child protection in all activities. Report concerns of abuse, neglect, or exploitation appropriately.
  • Uphold and engage in Compassion’s core Cultural Behaviors.
  • Support the regional Assistant General Counsel in daily activities and legal strategy implementation, including compliance, child protection, legal risk management, intellectual property, and local regulations.
  • Research and analyze legal sources such as statutes, judicial decisions, articles, treaties, constitutions, and codes to prepare legal documents like briefs, pleadings, appeals, wills, and contracts.
  • Use the matter management system for creating, reviewing, modifying, and executing legal matters and contracts.
  • Support and maintain the international legal database, organizing and tracking statutes, opinions, and processes for strategic decision-making.
  • Draft legal documents including briefs, pleadings, appeals, agreements, contracts, and memoranda in support of the regional AGC.
  • May coach and provide expertise to other professionals and support staff.

What do you bring?

  • Bachelor's degree in law, legal studies, or a related field.
  • 7 years of relevant experience in legal or related fields, preferably within international organizations, NGOs, or law firms.
  • Proven experience working in multicultural contexts and with diverse regulatory frameworks (Latin America and the Caribbean preferred).
  • Proficiency in reading, writing, and speaking English and Spanish.
