Job description

Join Our Team Supporting the U.S. Attorney's Office

Be part of a nationwide law enforcement initiative aimed at removing tools of crime from criminal organizations, depriving wrongdoers of proceeds, and impacting the infrastructure of criminal enterprises.

Currently, we have a vacancy for a Paralegal/Legal Assistant III to support the mission of the United States Attorney's Office (USAO).

Responsibilities
  1. Assist attorneys in reviewing case materials, analyzing legal decisions, and preparing summaries, including providing review support for Legal Clerk/Paralegal II.
  2. Evaluate new and complex cases against established standards and facts.
  3. Support in determining probable cause by reviewing reports, gathering evidence, and advising attorneys on case strengths and weaknesses.
  4. Conduct legal research using various databases, public records, and automated tools; interview law enforcement officers and witnesses.
  5. Prepare and organize discovery documents, summaries, and manage witness information for pretrial activities.
  6. Assist in settlement negotiations and prepare related legal documents.
  7. Draft legal pleadings, motions, and proposed orders.
  8. Manage case files, documents, and exhibits efficiently.
  9. Summarize depositions, testimonies, and legal proceedings to aid attorneys.
  10. Utilize databases and software to generate reports, charts, and trial exhibits.
  11. Provide training and perform additional duties as assigned.
Preferred Qualifications
  • Paralegal Certificate with at least one year of experience or a High School Diploma/GED with three years of paralegal experience.
  • Experience with automated litigation support and familiarity with legal research tools.
  • Knowledge of forfeiture law, policies, and trial experience preferred.
  • Excellent communication skills, both oral and written, including legal writing.
  • Strong organizational and multitasking abilities.
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Office applications and legal databases.
  • Commitment to excellent customer service and professional conduct under pressure.
  • Ability to work collaboratively in a team environment.

This position requires U.S. Citizenship and a background investigation of at least 7 (or 10) years.
