Job description

FSA Federal (FSA) is focused on delivering unsurpassed services in support of law enforcement and homeland security. We currently have a vacancy for a Paralegal/Legal Assistant III. Responsibilities



  • Assist attorneys in reviewing case material, including gathering, analyzing, and preparing digests of decisions and legal references. May review work done by Legal Clerk/Paralegal II.

  • Receive, examine, and evaluate new and complex cases based on facts and standards.

  • Help determine probable cause by reviewing reports, identifying evidence needs, and advising attorneys on case strengths, weaknesses, and defenses.

  • Research facts and laws using legal research tools and databases; interview law enforcement officers regarding case details.

  • Assist in pretrial preparations, including managing discovery, interviewing witnesses, and organizing case files.

  • Assist attorneys in settlement negotiations and prepare related legal documents.

  • Draft legal pleadings, motions, and proposed orders.

  • Organize and manage case files and exhibits.

  • Summarize depositions, testimonies, and legal proceedings to support attorneys.

  • Utilize databases and software to generate reports, charts, and trial exhibits.

  • Provide training to team members as needed.

  • Perform other duties as assigned.


Requirements



  • Paralegal Certificate with at least one year of legal assistance experience; or a High School Diploma/GED with at least three years of paralegal experience.

  • One year of experience with automated litigation support and familiarity with legal technology and resources.

  • Knowledge of forfeiture law, policies, and procedures; trial experience preferred.

  • Strong legal research and analysis skills, with ability to develop and document cases.

  • Excellent oral and written communication skills, including legal writing.

  • Strong organizational and prioritization skills.

  • Proficiency with Microsoft Office applications and legal databases.

  • Commitment to excellent customer service; adaptable and capable of multitasking.

  • Ability to work collaboratively, deliver high-quality work, and maintain professionalism under pressure.

  • This position requires U.S. Citizenship and a minimum background investigation of 7 or 10 years.
