Job description

Be a part of the nationwide law enforcement initiative that removes the tools of crime from criminal organizations, depriving wrongdoers of proceeds from their crime and impacting the infrastructure of criminal enterprises.

Centre Law & Consulting (Centre) offers a unique blend of legal expertise and practical federal contracting experience to assist government and industry clients in navigating complex federal rules and regulations and implementing federal market solutions that are timely, efficient, and legally effective. Centre has an immediate vacancy for a Paralegal/Legal Assistant II.

Responsibilities of a Paralegal/Legal Assistant II include:

  1. Assisting attorneys in reviewing case materials, including gathering, analyzing, and preparing legal references and summaries; may provide Legal Clerk review.
  2. Drafting, editing, and reviewing non-legal information, creating correspondence, and research reports.
  3. Preparing for trial by organizing exhibits and creating statistical charts and photographs.
  4. Interviewing potential witnesses and preparing summary reports.
  5. Reviewing legal documents for citation accuracy and legal references.
  6. Attending pre-trial meetings to review case materials and request additional information if needed.
  7. Summarizing testimony and depositions during and after trials.
  8. Investigating facts and laws, searching public records, and preparing case-related research and correspondence.
  9. Performing other duties as assigned.

Qualifications for a Paralegal/Legal Assistant II:

  1. Paralegal Certificate or High School Diploma/GED with at least two years of related experience in a law office or government setting; paralegal/legal assistance experience preferred.
  2. Trial and automated litigation support experience preferred.
  3. Ability to understand the organization and functions of the customer.
  4. Knowledge of legal research and standard legal citation.
  5. Excellent oral and written communication skills, including legal writing.
  6. Strong organizational and prioritization skills.
  7. Experience with Microsoft Office applications and legal research tools.
  8. Commitment to providing excellent customer service, with a positive and flexible attitude.
  9. Ability to work in a team, deliver high-quality work, and maintain professionalism under pressure.

This position requires U.S. Citizenship and a minimum background investigation of 7 or 10 years.

The Money Laundering and Asset Recovery Section (MLARS) leads enforcement efforts against money laundering and asset forfeiture, coordinating investigations and cases, providing legal and policy assistance, and managing the Department's Asset Forfeiture Program.
