Job summary

Zurich North America’s Staff Legal Office is hiring a Paralegal I, General Liability to support liability litigation. Under attorney supervision, you will draft pleadings, conduct legal research, and manage discovery and subpoenas in a fully remote role with California flexibility.

You will monitor case schedules, interview witnesses, prepare discovery responses, and assist trial prep while collaborating with attorneys and claims professionals to drive favorable outcomes.

Zurich North America’s Staff Legal Office is currently hiring a Paralegal I, General Liability to join their team! Under the supervision of an attorney, the successful candidate’s work will be in support of moderate to complex liability litigation cases (e.g. case work, research, discovery responses, subpoenas, etc.).

In this role you will be responsible for:

• Drafting legal pleadings, correspondence, and other documents as directed
• Providing legal support such as legal and documentary research
• Monitoring and adhering to case schedules and filing deadlines
• Conducting interviews, summarizing depositions, reviewing discovery responses and medical records
• Preparing discovery requests and responses
• Subpoenaing, collecting and organizing records from non-parties
• Scheduling Surveillance, Compulsory Medical Exams, and Site Inspections
• Assisting in trial preparation
• Responding to inquiries from and interacting with customers, clients, counsel, and witnesses
• Organizing and maintaining case files and documentation, electronically
• Contributing to the team effort by accomplishing related results and participating on projects as needed
• Collaborating with attorneys, staff, claims professionals and leadership to accomplish successful business and litigation outcomes.

Basic Qualifications:

Candidates must meet one of the following California paralegal qualifications:

• Paralegal certificate from an ABA-approved program;
  OR
• Certificate from an accredited paralegal program that includes at least 24 semester units of law-related coursework;
  OR
• Bachelor’s degree or higher and at least one year of qualifying law-related experience under attorney supervision.
  AND
• High School Diploma or equivalent and 4 or more years of experience in legal support;
  OR
• Associate Degree and 2 or more years of experience in legal support.
  AND
• Experience conducting electronic database research
• Experience drafting legal documents, correspondence, and/or pleadings
• Experience providing legal support
• Proficiency with Microsoft Office

Preferred Qualifications:

• Bachelor’s Degree or Paralegal Certificate
• Insurance industry experience
• Ability to effectively conduct electronic database research, including Lexus Nexis
• Comfortable working in a paperless work environment
• Strong written and verbal communication skills.
• Ability to effectively draft legal documents, correspondence, and/or pleadings
• Strong Microsoft Office and technical skills
• Familiarity with litigation management software systems
• Trial experience, including preparing trial exhibits and witnesses
• Experiencing filing with the California Courts E-filing system.
• Familiarity with California Rules of Civil Procedure and local Rules
• Experience navigating Clerk, Court and Judicial websites

Your pay at Zurich is based on your role, location, skills, and experience. We follow local laws to ensure fair compensation. You may also be eligible for bonuses and merit increases. The pay range shown is a national average and may vary by location. The proposed hourly range for this position is $34.86-45.67, with short-term incentive bonus eligibility set at 5%.
