Job summary

The Defender Association of Philadelphia is seeking a dedicated Paralegal for the Municipal Court Pre-trial Unit to support ARD and DV Diversion programs. The role involves case preparation, file management, and coordinating referrals with the District Attorney’s Office.

You will maintain legal files, schedule court appearances, and assist attorneys in the courtroom. Strong organizational and communication skills, plus experience with indigent criminal defense, are preferred.

Qualifications

  • Experience working with indigent clients in criminal justice proceedings preferred.
  • High School Diploma required; paralegal certification preferred.
  • Fluency in Spanish a plus.

Responsibilities

  • Maintain all legal files and processing of arrests, active clients, and bench warrants.
  • Coordinate referrals to the District Attorney’s Office for ARD and DV Diversion.
  • Update the database, schedules, court dates, and attach documents.
  • Prepare active cases for court appearances and referrals for evaluations and treatment programs.
  • Assist attorneys in the courtroom and handle status hearings.
  • Cross-train with MCPTU Paralegals and provide backup as needed.
  • Conduct legal client interviews and perform other duties as assigned.
