Job summary

The Law Office of Bryan Fagan is seeking a Paralegal - Criminal to join our Legal department in a hybrid Houston setting. You will manage case files from intake to disposition, coordinate court dates, and organize discovery for attorneys in criminal defense matters.

Ideal candidates have 2+ years in criminal defense/prosecution, ABAs认证 program, and strong organizational and communication skills to support our team and clients through deadlines and hearings.

Qualifications

• Associate's/Bachelor's degree or paralegal certificate from an ABA-approved program.
• 2+ years of criminal defense or prosecution paralegal experience.
• Comfort with e-filing systems and local court procedures.
• Strong organizational skills and ability to manage a full, deadline-driven caseload.
• Calm, professional communication style with clients under stress.
• Sound judgment handling sensitive, confidential information.

Responsibilities

• Keep every case file organized and current from intake through disposition.
• Track court dates, filing deadlines, and speedy-trial windows.
• Request, review, and organize discovery and flag material for the attorney.
• Prepare and e-file pleadings and motions ahead of deadlines.
• Build trial notebooks and support attorneys in court.
• Be the client's point of contact between hearings and relay updates.
• Coordinate with bond companies, jails, and pretrial services on custody.

Behind every criminal defense case, there's someone keeping it all together — the discovery, the deadlines, the client who's scared and needs a steady voice between hearings. That's this job.

What You’ll Do

• Keep every case file organized and current, from intake through disposition
• Track court dates, filing deadlines, and speedy-trial windows so nothing slips
• Request, review, and organize discovery — police reports, body-cam footage, lab results — and flag what matters to the attorney
• Prepare and e-file pleadings and motions ahead of deadlines
• Build trial notebooks and support attorneys in court
• Be the client's point of contact between hearings — relaying updates, answering questions, and keeping them informed
• Coordinate with bond companies, jails, and pretrial services on custody and release status
