Job summary

Derrevere Stevens Black & Cozad is seeking a seasoned paralegal for our Construction Defect Practice Group with remote flexibility in NY/FL. The ideal candidate has 5+ years in insurance defense, strong case management, and excellent research and drafting skills.

Responsibilities include managing a high-volume docket, drafting legal documents, coordinating with clients and experts, and supporting trial preparation. A degree or paralegal certificate is preferred.

Qualifications

• Bachelor's degree or Paralegal Certificate preferred.
• Strong knowledge of state and federal court procedures in NY and Florida.
• Excellent research, analytical, and writing skills.
• Experience with discovery and documentation processes.

Responsibilities

• Case Management: Assist attorneys with managing a high-volume docket from inception through resolution.
• Legal Research & Analysis: Conduct research on statutes, case law, and regulatory issues relevant to insurance defense.
• Drafting & Documentation: Prepare pleadings, motions, discovery requests, subpoenas, and other legal documents.
• Investigation & Evidence Gathering: Gather documentation, review reports, and coordinate with experts.
• Client & Third-Party Communication: Liaise with clients, insureds, adjusters, experts, and opposing counsel.
• Litigation Support: Assist in trial prep, including exhibits and deposition summaries.
• Calendar & Deadline Management: Maintain court deadlines and schedules.
• Technology & Database Management: Use case management software to track progress.

Derrevere Stevens Black & Cozad, a national law firm, is currently seeking a highly skilled Paralegal to support our Construction Defect Practice Group. This position offers flexibility of remote work and a collaborative, fast-paced work environment.

Our nationally recognized firm is dedicated to excellence in subrogation litigation, and we are looking for a detail-oriented, experienced paralegal to assist in managing a high-volume caseload alongside our attorneys.

Ideal Candidate Profile:

We seek a seasoned paralegal with a strong background in construction and/or insurance defense who thrives in a high-profile, fast-paced legal practice. The ideal candidate must possess exceptional organizational, analytical, and case management skills, with the ability to work independently while maintaining a high level of accuracy and efficiency. This individual will play a critical role in case preparation, investigation, and litigation support.

Candidates should possess a minimum of five years' experience in insurance defense and case management. Prior experience working in construction defense is preferred.

Key Responsibilities:

• Calendar & Deadline Management:Maintain court deadlines, filing schedules, and case milestones to ensure timely compliance with procedural requirements.
• Technology & Database Management:Utilize case management software and litigation technology to track case progress and maintain accurate records.

Qualifications:

• Minimum 5+ years of experience, preferably in construction and/or insurance defense.
• Bachelor's degree or Paralegal Certificate from an accredited institution is preferred.
• Strong knowledge of state and federal court procedures in New York and Florida.
• Experience drafting legal documents and managing discovery processes.
• Excellent research, analytical, and problem-solving skills.Ability to manage multiple priorities and work efficiently under deadlines.
• Strong written and verbal communication skills.
• Proficiency in litigation software and document management tools.
