Job summary

The State of Washington Attorney General's Office in Olympia seeks a permanent Paralegal 2 in the Children, Youth, and Families Division to support DCYF litigation and discovery.

You will develop legal strategies, prepare for trial, and manage discovery with electronic databases such as Everlaw, serving as a liaison with opposing counsel. A diverse, inclusive workplace with robust benefits is offered.

Qualifications

• Combination of four years of experience through several avenues (certifications, degrees, or paraprofessional roles).
• Paralegal certification or a two-year paralegal degree is preferred.
• Paralegal plus certification or equivalent paraprofessional experience may satisfy qualifications.
• One year of Paralegal 1 experience in WA State Service also acceptable.

Responsibilities

• Develop legal strategy and summarize documents to identify relevant issues.
• Prepare for trial by organizing exhibits and trial notebooks for dependency/termination cases.
• Review discovery, manage voluminous production, and use electronic databases like Everlaw.
• Serve as liaison with opposing counsel to develop discovery plans for electronic and paper work.
• Draft pleadings, affidavits, and correspondence; obtain further factual information from the client.
