Job summary

The U.S. Department of Veterans Affairs Office of General Counsel – Midwest District is seeking a skilled Paralegal to support Employment Law attorneys and contribute to protecting the rights, dignity, and fair treatment of VA employees.

You will assist with legal research, drafting, discovery, and case preparation, and provide day-to-day employment law advice to VA managers and supervisors across Milwaukee, Detroit, Kansas City, St. Louis, and Minneapolis.

The U.S. Department of Veterans Affairs (VA) Office of General Counsel – Midwest District is seeking a skilled Paralegal to support our Employment Law attorneys and contribute directly to the mission of serving America’s Veterans. In this role, your work strengthens the systems that protect the rights, dignity, and workplace fairness of thousands of VA employees, ultimately improving outcomes for the Veterans we serve.


About the Role

As a Paralegal in the Midwest District, you will work closely with Employment Law attorneys providing essential legal and administrative support. You’ll play a key role in helping the Department navigate complex workplace matters and employment litigation.


Key Responsibilities


  • Support attorneys handling employment law matters and administrative litigation

  • Assist with legal research, drafting, record compilation, motions, discovery, and case preparation

  • Help provide day‑to‑day administrative and employment law advice to VA managers and supervisors

  • Support representation before administrative bodies including:

  • U.S. Equal Employment Opportunity Commission (EEOC)


Preferred Experience


  • Employment Law

  • Legal Writing

  • Drafting Motions

  • Discovery

  • Research and case‑file organization


Our Paralegal positions start at GS‑7, GS‑9, or GS‑11, depending on qualifications and experience.


The role offers promotion potential to GS‑11 after one or two years of fully successful performance.
