Job summary

Mount Vernon School District is seeking a Paraeducator – Migrant/Bilingual at Mount Baker Middle School in Mount Vernon, WA. The role provides skilled support to the Program Teacher/ESL Facilitator, assisting designated bilingual or migrant students.

Work year is 180 days at 6.75 hours per day with 2.75 hours of supervision; requires AA degree or equivalent, and bilingual abilities are preferred. Union shop applies, with pay processes via the Personnel Office.

• Maintain required records and student counts and monitor test scores.

Job Description

Selection for interview is based on evaluation of complete application file. Employment offer is based on employee evaluations, discipline history and attendance records, training and experience, references, and interview results. Hourly rate placement contingent upon verification of related WA public school experience.

This position is included in the classified staff non-supervisory bargaining unit. Union shop requirements and the Collective Bargaining Agreement apply to this position.

Employment contingent upon completion and verification of form information and background check with fee to be paid by applicant.

Pay for contracted classified employees is distributed once/month on the last business day of the month. Pay for employees who work less than full year is spread through August. Questions concerning pay processes may be directed to the Personnel Office.

Eligibility for SEBB medical, dental, vision, life insurance, AD&D, and LTD if anticipated to reach 630 hours in the school year. Eligibility for retirement based on 3.50 hrs/day or more for 5 or more consecutive months. Optional tax-sheltered annuities: Omni 403(b) and Deferred Compensation Plan. Personal leave, vacation leave (260-day employees only), and sick leave prorated based on FTE.

Job Description: Paraeducator – Migrant/Bilingual
Responsible to: Principal and Program Teacher/ESL Facilitator
Work Year: 180 Days, 6.75 hours/day, 2.75 hours is Supervision
General: Under the direction of the principal, perform skilled support to the Program Teacher/ESL Facilitator in providing supplemental instructional services to designated Bilingual or Migrant students.

Minimum Qualification:

• At a minimum, AA degree or higher, or two years of college (72 quarter credits), or
• Ability to meet State-determined performance standards in reading, math and writing (para‑educator assessment).
• Bilingual/literate in Spanish and English or Russian and English preferred and/or may be required depending on assignment/work location.
• Ability to communicate in one‑on‑one or small groups with students, teachers, parents and administrators utilizing bilingual skills (preferred and/or required).
• Must have basic math skills utilizing pre‑algebra, ability to explain science, social studies, health, home economics, art and music concepts. Must be able to write and edit.

Position Responsibilities:

• Assist in maintaining required records, student count and record test scores.
