Job summary

Sylvania in Minnesota seeks a Paraeducator Special Education to support students with disabilities across multiple settings. The position runs 184 days per year at 6.5 hours daily, with an ASAP start following the posting period.

Primary duties include behavior management, progress monitoring, and assisting with daily living skills. Requires HS diploma, optional credits/degree, and certification; lifting up to 40 pounds; strong communication and recordkeeping.

Qualifications

• Requires High School Diploma or equivalent and ParaEducator certification within 30 days of start.
• Candidate must have 60 sem/90 qtr credits or an associate degree, or have passed the ParaEducator or ParaPro exam.
• Strong communication, interpersonal, and recordkeeping skills essential.
• Ability to work with technology and computers; cooperate with staff and students.
• Must be able to lift a minimum of 40 pounds; maintain regular attendance.

Paraeducator Special Education

Full-Time 184 days/6.5 hrs/day

This position can be filled after a 5-day posting period.

Duties

Assists in the instruction of students with disabilities in mainstream, resource room or center base settings. Although the job duties vary due to the age or level of disability, job duties may include:

• managing behavior (redirecting, calming or removing a disruptive student from the classroom)
• monitoring and recording student progress in instructional areas (academics, daily living skills, dressing , grooming, social skills, etc.)
• managing physical needs (toileting, feeding, dressing, lifting, positioning, transporting students in wheelchairs, etc.

Minimum Qualifications

• High School Diploma or equivalent. Personal Care Assistant certification required to be completed within 30 days of start date.
• Candidates must have completed60 semester/ 90 quarter credits orobtained an associate degree (or higher)from a regionally accredited institutionorhave passed the ParaEducator exam or ParaPro exam. (Documentation will be required)
• Good communications, interpersonal and recordkeeping skills. Ability/desire to work with technology and computers. Ability to work cooperatively with students and staff. Ability to supervise students. Ability to take direction. Ability to maintain regular attendance, which includes completing an assigned day.
• Must be able to lift a minimum of 40 pounds. Ability to perform position responsibilities, including physical factors, work devices, materials handling, data functions and people functions, but not limited to toileting, feeding and self-care procedures, implementing behavioral management program; maintaining student data; working with students who may display aggressive, abusive, or inappropriate verbal and/or physical behavior. Must be physically working in the building.

Rate of Pay

• $20.85/hour to $24.15/hour DOQ with K-12 experience
• $22.00/hour to $25.30/hour with AA/AAS degree or 90 quarter credits from a regionallyaccreditedinstitution, DOQ with K-12 experience
• $22.85/hour to $26.15/hour with BA degree from a regionally accreditedinstitution, DOQ with K-12 experience
• Special Ed Paras servingCenter based students and classrooms 50 percent or more of their time shall receive an additional $0.50 per hour.
• Special Ed Paras at Two Rivers Transition Program shall receive an additional $1.00 per hour. Special Ed Paras at River Trail Learning Center shall receive an additional $1.50/hour.
