Job summary

Huron Valley School District is seeking a Paraeducator Student Support for Lakeland High School to provide support to students with ASD and other needs in both special education and general education classrooms. The role reports to the Building Principal and is for the 2026-27 school year, starting in August 2026.

Work is Monday through Friday, totaling about 32.5 hours per week. Ideal candidates will have HS diploma and experience with students with disabilities, and the ability to collaborate

Qualifications

• Must be able to work with students with physical, cognitive, emotional, learning and/or developmental disabilities.
• Previous experience with this age group or in special education is preferred.
• Must establish and maintain relationships with school officials, principals, teachers and office staff.

Responsibilities

• Complement, supplement and reinforce instruction under supervision in both special and regular education classrooms.
• Assist with material preparation and clean-up after students.
• Supervise students during lunch, recess, and related activities.
• Attend to a student with routine medical procedures or hygiene as needed.
• Track academic or behavioral data as directed by the teacher.

Complement, supplement, and reinforce students in instruction under the direction and supervision of the classroom teacher in both special education and regular education classrooms.

Reports To: Building Principal

Status: School Year 2026-27

Start Date: August 2026

Location:Lakeland High School

Work Dates: Monday - Friday

Hours: 32.5 hours/week

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS

• Must have ability to work with students with physical, cognitive, emotional, learning and/or developmental disabilities
• Previous experience working with this age or special education students in general is preferred
• Must have the ability to establish and maintain effective relationships with various school officials, principals, teachers and office personnel
• Must possess initiative to accept and carry out varied assignments along with a consistent, systematic approach to the tasks performed
• Must sign Consent to Bill for Medicaid and complete Medicaid billing monthly
• Must be willing to attend Nonviolent Crisis Intervention training after school as certification expires. Other behavioral techniques may require training after school hours.
• Must be willing to use Nonviolent Crisis Intervention skills to socially and physically manage students who are escalated as directed by the teacher/administrator
• Other duties assigned by the special education teacher or the building principal

ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS

• Complement, supplement and reinforce student's instruction under the direction and supervision of the classroom teacher in both special education and regular education classrooms.
• Assist with the preparation of material; clean up after students, etc.
• Assist with the general supervision of the students including lunchtime, recess time, etc.
• On an as needed basis para-professional employees may be required to attend to a student whose needs include routine medical procedure or assistance with regular hygiene.
• Track academic or behavioral data as directed by teacher

EDUCATION and/or EXPERIENCE: High School diploma and/or related experience.

LANGUAGE, MATHEMATICAL AND REASONING SKILLS:Ability to speak and write effectively. Ability to apply mathematical concepts to practical situations.Ability to carry out instructions furnished in written or oral format and deal with problems involving several concrete variables in standardized situations.
