Responsibilities

Assists in the instruction of students with disabilities in mainstream, resource room, or center-based settings. Duties may include:

  1. Managing behavior (redirecting, calming, or removing disruptive students)
  2. Monitoring and recording student progress in areas such as academics, daily living skills, dressing, grooming, social skills, etc.
  3. Managing physical needs (toileting, feeding, dressing, lifting, positioning, transporting students in wheelchairs, etc.)
Minimum Qualifications

High School Diploma or equivalent. Personal Care Assistant certification must be completed within 30 days of start date. Candidates must have:

  • 60 semester/90 quarter credits or an associate degree (or higher) from a regionally accredited institution, or
  • Passed the Paraeducator or ParaPro exam (documentation required)

Additional skills include good communication, interpersonal, and recordkeeping skills, comfort with technology, ability to work cooperatively, supervise students, take direction, and maintain regular attendance. Physical ability to lift a minimum of 40 pounds and perform responsibilities including toileting, feeding, and self-care procedures is required.

Compensation

Hourly rate ranges from $19.60 to $26.65, depending on experience and qualifications. Additional pay for serving center-based students or working at specific programs applies.

Start Date

As soon as possible. Note that hires after March 17, 2025, for positions of six or more hours per day, will be ineligible for insurance benefits until the 2025-26 school year.
