Job summary

Illinois School District U-46 in Elgin, IL is seeking a Paraeducator Cross Categorical (including ELL) to support classroom instruction for students with IEPs under direct supervision of a certified staff member. The role emphasizes maintaining confidentiality and following district procedures.

Responsibilities include implementing lessons, supporting goals for mainstream/IEP students, supervising classroom activities, and collaborating with teachers.

Qualifications

• Requires Para Educator license or equivalent.
• 60 semester hours of college coursework or a passing ETS Para Pro exam or two Work Keys exams.
• Bilingual Spanish/English preferred.
• Effective communication skills.
• Experience working with students in an educational setting preferred.

Responsibilities

• Implement individual or small group instructional lessons under supervision of a certified teacher.
• Familiarize self with goals/objectives for students in classroom.
• Facilitate implementation of functional community-based curriculum as assigned.
• Follow through on behavioral programs and procedures.
• Document student behavior as directed by the teacher.
• Collaborate with the teacher, prepare and maintain materials.
• Escort students within the building as directed by the classroom teacher.
• Work cooperatively with the classroom teacher by assisting with any related activity for students' IEP.
