Job Description

Applications are being accepted by the College Place School District for a Paraeducator assigned to the Life Skills/EBD program at Davis Elementary.The Inclusion Support Paraeducator provides support across a variety of special education settings with a primary focus on promoting student access, participation, independence, and inclusion. This position may support students within the general education setting to help them successfully participate alongside their peers, as well as provide small-group or individualized instruction and support within special education settings.

The paraeducator may work one-on-one with individual students or with small groups based on student needs. Responsibilities may include supporting academic instruction, social-emotional and behavioral skills, communication, independence, and the generalization of skills across school environments. The position will collaborate with special education and general education staff to help students access their educational program and participate as fully and independently as possible in the school community.

Position: 7 hours per day, 190 days per school year (10 months)

Salary: $20.69 - $27.14 per hour (educational incentive available in accordance with applicable collective bargaining agreement as negotiated)

Anticipated Start Date: 9/28/2026

Benefits: Medical/Dental/Vision, FSA/DCAP, Life/AD&D through SEBB (School Employee Benefits Board);and Retirement through DRS (Department of Retirement Systems) for eligible employees

Leave: 9 sick days (pro-rated for mid-year hires), 10 paid holidays

REQUIRED QUALIFICATIONS:

• 18 years of age; and
• High school diploma or equivalent; and
• Meet the Washington State Paraeducator Minimum Employment requirements by showing evidence of one of the following:
  • Associate degree; or
  • At least 72 quarter or 48 semester credits of 100 level courses or higher; or
  • Pass the ETS Para-Pro Assessment with a score of 455 or higher.
  • Pass the Pearson Paraprofessional Assessment with a minimum qualifying score of 220, or
  • Pass the Master Teacher Inc. Paraeducator Online Training Program with a minimum passing score of 65% on each of the two required assessments.Applicable fees paid by applicant; and

• Background check through Washington State Patrol, as required by RCW 43.43.830.; and
• Completion of Safe Schools Web-Based Training at hire and annually thereafter
• Effective oral and written communication in the English language, including correct grammar and spelling usage;
• Ability to learn and apply new skills

• Ability to show flexibility and good judgment
• Ability to interact positively and confidentially with individuals from diverse linguistic, cultural and ethnic backgrounds
• Ability to successfully implement educational programs and manage student behavior with direction from certificated staff

• Willingness to complete training on restraint and/or de-escalation as required for the position.

• Ability to carry up to 30 pounds occasionally and up to 10 pounds regularly

ADDITIONAL SKILLS: Bilingual/biliterate in Spanish is considered helpful. District tests to verify skill levels.

ROLES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:

• Administers tests, homework assignments, make-up work, etc., for the purpose of supporting certificated staff in the instructional process.
• Assists students, individually or in groups, with lesson assignments (i.e., reading and math activities, etc.) for the purpose of practicing and/or reinforcing learning concepts and assisting students in reaching their academic goals and grade level standards, or IEP goals.
• Attends functions as assigned (e.g. meetings, in-service presentations, trainings, etc.) for the purpose of acquiring and/or applying information relative to job functions. Confers with certificated staff as may be required for the purpose of providing input into the evaluation of students' progress and/or implementing/modifying students' objectives.
• Guides students in independent study (e.g. enrichment work, remedial work, etc.) for the purpose of ensuring student success.
• Under the supervision of assigned staff member, implements instructional programs and lesson plans provided by the certificated staff member for the purpose of assisting the classified staff member in improving student academic success through a defined course of study.
• Maintains classroom resources, work area, student files/records (e.g. adapting instructional materials, audio visual equipment, bulletin boards, etc.) for the purpose of ensuring availability of items and/or providing reliable information.
• Monitors individual and/or groups of students in a variety of settings (e.g. classroom, playground, field trips, library, lunchroom, bus loading/unloading, etc.) for the purpose of identifying required assistance and ensuring a safe and positive learning environment.
• Performs record keeping and clerical functions (e.g. copying, correcting papers, completing attendance verifications, taking and recording phone calls, etc.) for the purpose of supporting certificated staff and/or in providing necessary records/materials. Reports observations and incidents relating to specific students (e.g., accidents, fights, inappropriate social behavior, violations of rules, safety conditions, etc.) for the purpose of communicating information to appropriate instructional and/or administrative personnel.
• Responds to emergency situations (e.g. injured student, fights, etc.) for the purpose of resolving immediate safety concerns and/or directing to appropriate personnel for resolution.
• Supports classroom teachers and other certificated staff members (i.e., OT, SLP, etc.) for the purpose of assisting them in the implementation of curriculum and teaching methodologies.
• Other duties as assigned.

SPECIAL EDUCATION PARAEDUCATOR:In addition to the basic paraeducator duties listed above, a special education paraeducator’s duties may also include:

• Assisting students with clothing, movement, and toilet usage.
• Assist individual students to understand and overcome social and emotional problems.
• Working closely with certificated staff in planning and carrying out the IEP’s (Individual Education Plans).
• Completing any other special education program-related tasks assigned by the assigned certificated staff or administrator.
• This job may require interaction with students displaying aggression, non-compliance, and other conduct problems.
• Other duties as assigned
