Job summary

Kelso School District is seeking a paraeducator to assist students in math, reading, and writing as part of the educational program. The schedule is 5.5 hours per day, 188 days per year, with possible reductions for early releases and holidays.

The role includes English language support, record-keeping, assessments, and basic tech assistance. Collaboration with teachers, parents, and students is essential, with a professional, caring approach.

Qualifications

• Must be at least eighteen with a high school diploma or equivalent and meet one of the specified education options.
• Possess a valid PESB assessment or higher education credential as listed.
• Preference for experience working with students and demonstrated teamwork.
• Ability to work with diverse student populations and maintain confidentiality.

Responsibilities

Position Details:

5.5 hrs/day, 8:45am to 2:45pm; 188 days/year.

Potential reduction hours due to Wednesday early release, early dismissals for parent conferences, holidays, and last day of school; reduction hours subject to change. Job assignment and/or building assignment are subject to change based on program needs determined by the district.

Essential Functions

• Work with individuals and/or groups of students on assigned tasks in the areas of mathematics, reading, and writing in the implementation of the educational program
• Work with individuals and/or groups of students in learning English and in the implementation of the educational program
• Maintain records and produce instructional materials as needed
• Administer assessments as directed
• Provide computer and technical support to students as directed
• Supervise students in the cafeteria, classroom, on school grounds and in the community as needed
• Take all necessary and reasonable precautions to protect students, equipment, materials, and facilities
• Assist in upholding and enforcing school rules, administrative regulations, and board policies
• Must have regular and consistent attendance

Qualifications

• Demonstrated awareness and appreciation of diversity among individual students and the ability to set appropriate expectations for individual students
• Previous experience or training in working with students preferred
• Must have physical ability to lift, position and/or transfer students (with assistance as may be required) up to 21 years of age
• Demonstrated ability to work cooperatively with teachers, parents and students
• Demonstrated ability to work as a team member and be able to project a positive, friendly and caring attitude toward others
• Demonstrated ability and willingness to participate in activities and responsibilities as assigned by the classroom teacher
• Demonstrated ability to work independently under the direction of the classroom teacher, while accepting direction and constructive criticism

Education

• Be at least eighteen years of age, hold a high school diploma and/or equivalent, AND must meet at least one of the following options:
• Have received a passing score on one of the assessments approved by PESB (Professional Educator Standards Board)
• Hold an associate degree or higher from an accredited college or university
• Have earned 72 quarter credits or 48 semester credits at the 100 level or higher at an accredited college or university
• Have completed an apprenticeship as a paraeducator, in a program registered with the Washington State Apprenticeship and Training Council (WSATC)**
• Must complete training on the Fundamental Course of Study within the timelines described in RCW 28A.413.070 in years that the program is funded by the legislature
