Job Goal

To work under the direction of a certificated staff member to support and assist in providing instructional programs and services to students with disabilities to help them benefit from their Individualized Education Program (IEP). Services may be provided in various instructional settings.

Essential Functions

• Abides by applicable laws, regulations, district policies, and administrative regulations.
• Familiarizes with assigned student(s) IEPs, including needed accommodations.
• Provides one-on-one or group review of material taught by certificated staff.
• Assists with classroom management and implementation of behavior support plans.
• Assists students with physical tasks, managing materials, and transitions.
• Provides information to substitute teachers and assists in their absence.
• Supports students with self-care as per IEPs and teacher directions.
• Assists with curriculum tasks, testing, and instructional materials preparation.
• Monitors and assists with student use of equipment; reports malfunctions.
• Interacts and communicates with staff, students, and parents as directed.
• Accompanies students on field trips and community activities.
• Attends training and completes staff development activities.
• Provides accommodations per IEP and monitors student progress.
• Prepares organizational materials and reports data related to behavior and health issues.
• Serves as liaison between general and special education classrooms.
• Maintains confidentiality and ethical behavior.
• Reinforces behavior plans and assists with physical management of behavior as needed.

Qualifications

Education: Associates Degree or equivalent demonstrated through assessment.

Work Experience: Successful experience with students with special needs preferred.
