LONG-TERM SUBSTITUTE – IN-SCHOOL SUSPENSION PARAEDUCATOR

Leave of Absence – Beginning September 30, 2026, for approximately 12 weeks (possibly longer)

BASIC FUNCTION:

Under the direction of the Principal and/or designee, supervises and supports students assigned to an In-School Suspension (ISS) classroom for disciplinary reasons. Provides students with appropriate assignments, instructional assistance, and academic support while maintaining a structured, safe, and respectful learning environment.

EXAMPLE OF DUTIES & RESPONSIBILITIES:

In addition to the general duties and responsibilities of a Paraeducator, the ISS Paraeducator is responsible for monitoring students assigned to the In-School Suspension classroom, maintaining accurate student and disciplinary records, obtaining and distributing classroom assignments, providing instructional assistance, coordinating cafeteria-prepared lunches for ISS students, and working cooperatively with administrators, teachers, and other school personnel.

ESSENTIAL JOB FUNCTIONS:

Duties may include, but are not limited to, the following:

• Supervise and monitor students assigned to the In-School Suspension classroom.
• Maintain a safe, orderly, and structured environment conducive to student learning.
• Maintain accurate records related to the ISS program, including student names, attendance, grade level, date, periods assigned, classroom teacher, and disciplinary reason.
• Obtain assignments and instructional materials from students' classroom teachers.
• Distribute assignments and provide instructional assistance and clarification as appropriate.
• Monitor students' completion of assigned work and provide feedback and assistance as needed.
• Communicate with classroom teachers regarding student assignments and academic needs.
• Coordinate and distribute cafeteria-prepared lunches to students assigned to ISS.
• Maintain confidentiality regarding student information and disciplinary matters.
• Work cooperatively with administrators, teachers, and other school personnel.
• Organize and maintain instructional materials and resources for student use.
• Attend meetings, professional development, and in-service training as required.
• Perform other related duties as assigned.

KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS & ABILITIES:

• Knowledge of basic subjects taught in district schools, including mathematics, grammar, spelling, language, and reading.
• Knowledge of basic instructional techniques and practices.
• Knowledge of school and classroom rules, procedures, and practices.
• Knowledge of appropriate methods and techniques for maintaining a structured and disciplined environment.
• Ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships with students, staff, parents/guardians, and administrators.
• Ability to exercise good judgment, patience, tact, and courtesy when working with students.
• Ability to understand and follow oral and written instructions.
• Ability to maintain accurate records and organize instructional materials.
• Ability to maintain confidentiality and demonstrate ethical practices when communicating about students.

• Must possess or be willing to acquire the skills necessary to work productively with children.
• Physical condition commensurate with the demands of, at a minimum, the essential functions of the position.

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS:

• Must possess a high school diploma.
• Must meet Highly Qualified compliance requirements, as applicable. Candidates must possess an Associate's Degree or 60 college credits OR successfully complete the ParaPro Assessment Examination.
• Must possess or be willing to acquire the skills necessary to support English Language Learners.
• Experience and/or training working with children preferred.
• Experience working with students with behavioral or disciplinary needs preferred.

Working Conditions:

• $23.00 an hour as per Union Contract
