Job Description

ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:

  • Support HUSD Vision, Mission and Goals.
  • Assists classrooml Teacher working with early childhood students including: preparing classroom materials, putting out supplies for activities, supervising a center, checking incoming backpacks for parent communication, ensuring teacher communication is in backpack to go home at end of day, collecting lunch boxes and recording lunch counts, and preparing snack calendars and/or newsletters to go home with students.
  • Assists students with physical needs and personal care, including feeding, bathroom needs and personal hygiene.
  • Helps manage behavior of students.
  • Works with individual students or small groups to develop motor skill and conducts instructional exercises assigned by the teacher.
  • Helps supervise students throughout the day, inside and outside the classroom. This includes lunchroom, bus, and playground duty.
  • Keeps Teacher informed of special needs or problems of individual students.
  • Helps maintain a neat and orderly classroom.
  • Prepares rooms at the beginning of the day which includes disinfecting surfaces, puts away and organizes materials, and cleans room at the end of the day. Sanitizes toys regularly.
  • Provides assistance to substitute teachers.
  • Due to the potential for access to confidential student information, it is absolutely mandatory that this position safeguard and maintain the confidentiality of the information stored and discussed in the school.
  • Performs other duties as assigned.
  • NOTE: Positions in this classification may work with STARS, Brilliant Beginnings, and Kinder Prep programs.

QUALIFICATIONS AND REQUIREMENTS:

  • High school Diploma
  • Must have excellent organizational and time management skills. Must be flexible and adapt to changing priorities.
  • Must be aware of surroundings and activities in classroom.
  • Capable of working with children one-on-one and in groups. Ability to work independently and follow schedule.
  • Ability to relate to students, parents and teachers in a positive manner.
  • DPS issued IVP Fingerprint Clearance Card, First Aid and CPR certification required
  • Ability to pass background and reference checking as stipulated by District standards.

The employee is regularly required to perform the following duties:

  • Frequent communication with parents, students, and staff including the exchange of accurate information.
  • Frequent interaction with students by bending body downward and forward by bending spine at the waist, requiring full use of the lower extremities and back muscles, bending legs at knee to come to rest on knees, or sitting on the floor requiring to resume an upright position.
  • Moving about on foot and remaining on one’s feet in an upright position while supervising student(s).
  • Raising or lowering an object from one level ranging from 25-50 lbs.
  • Exerting force upon an object so that the object moves away from the force or towards the force.
  • Ascending and descending small ladder with agility.
  • Required to have visual acuity to perform activities with student(s).

TERM OF EMPLOYMENT: This is a 10 month position Monday-Friday

SALARY CLASSIFICATION: Appropriate salary placement on the Classified Hourly Salary Schedule.

EVALUATION: Performance of this job will be evaluated by Site Administrator and according to District Policy.

TOTAL PAID HOLIDAYS: 14
