Summary
The job of PARAEDUCATOR-ESY Program is responsible for assisting specific students with meeting Behavioral Goals, Academic Goals, or Medical Assistance per the IEP goals; preparing materials and resources for student instruction; conducting student assessments for placement/progress reporting and maintaining student records. An ESY Paraeducator serves specific special needs students with student mobility; provides medical support; performs therapy sessions as directed; operates assistive technology; collects data on student progress; and assist with the implementation of the student's Individual Education Plan (IEP).
Essential Duties And Responsibilities
- Administers first aid, medical assistance, physical support and personal care for the purpose of providing appropriate care for ill, medically fragile and/or disabled children.
- Assists students, teachers and other certificated personnel for the purpose of implementing instruction and/or IEP's; developing students' learning, daily living, physical, social, communication, and/or behavior skills and evaluating students' progress on IEP objectives.
- Participates in meetings and training for the purpose of sharing information and/or improving employee's skills and knowledge.
- Supervise students in the school setting for the purpose of maintaining and providing a safe and positive learning environment.
- Provides clerical and general classroom assistance for staff (e.g. collecting and inputting data, correspondence, copying, filing, preparing and organizing classroom materials) for the purpose of documenting student progress and providing general support for classroom activities related to student learning goals and objectives.

Working Conditions and Physical Demands

The usual and customary methods of performing the job's functions require the following physical demands: significant verbal communication, hearing, vision, kneeling, squatting, crawling, lifting, carrying. Frequent standing, walking, pushing/pulling, handling paperwork, reaching above the shoulder, lifting up to 50 pounds independently or over 50 pounds as part of a two-person lift, exposure to blood/bodily fluids, and moderate to loud noise levels. The job is performed under minimal temperature variations and a generally hazard free environment.
Education and Experience
- High School graduate or equivalent;
- Completion of at least two years of study at an institution of higher education (72 quarter credits at 100 Course Level and above); OR completion of an Associate's (or higher) degree; OR have passed the State of Washington Para Pro Assessment;
- Job-related experience is desired.
Required Testing
- Restraint and Isolation Trained (Pro-Act); training will be provided upon hire.
Clearances
- Washington State Patrol and FBI Fingerprint Background Clearance.
Certificates
- First Aid/CPR Certification required;
- Valid Washington State Driver's License required (must be able to fulfill all traveling requirements of this position, including possessing and maintaining a valid license, clean driving record, and automobile insurance).
