Job summary

Bristol Public Schools seeks a Paraeducator to assist in small group and individual pupil instruction at Edgewood Pre-K Academy (located at Greene Hills Elementary School) in Bristol, Connecticut.

Under the supervision of a Special Education Teacher, you will support instructional activities, maintain discipline, escort students, assist with IEPs, and supervise during recess and lunch. This is a 6.5-hour daily position with 8:00 am to 2:30 pm hours, ASAP date of service.

Qualifications

• Education and experience requirements include a high school diploma or GED, with two years of college credit or an associate degree.
• Ability to read and comprehend simple instructions, and to write simple correspondence.
• Ability to work under supervision in a classroom setting with appropriate supports.

Education And/Or Experience

High School Diploma or General Education Degree. Two years of college credit OR hold an associate's (or higher) degree; OR successful completion of a paraprofessional assessment which assesses content knowledge in mathematics, reading and writing and an understanding of how to assist in the instruction of these topics (Parapro Assessment).

Language Skills

Ability to read and comprehend simple instructions, short correspondence and memos. Ability to write simple correspondence. Ability to effectively present information in one-on-one and small group situations.

Mathematical Skills

Ability to add and subtract two digit numbers and to multiply and divide with 10s and 100s. Ability to perform these operations using units of American money and weight measurement, volume and distance.

Computer Skills

Basic knowledge and experience with job related computer hardware and software applications.

Reasoning Ability

Ability to apply common sense understanding to carry out detailed but uninvolved written or oral instructions. Ability to deal with problems involving a few concrete variables in standardized situations.

Other Skills And Abilities

Ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships with students, staff and the community. Ability to perform duties with awareness of district requirements and Board of Education policies.

Salary: Per contractual agreement - AFSCME 2267 Contract

Work Hours: 6.5 hours per day, 8:00a to 2:30p
