Job summary

The Chandler Unified School District seeks a Paraeducator Classroom Instructional Health Aide (ABLE) at Santan Junior High to provide instructional support in a special education setting for students with moderate to severe needs. You will assist teachers, implement plans, monitor safety, and support daily activities under supervision.

Starting pay is $19.01 per hour, with 6.5 hours per day in a 9- or 10-month calendar, plus benefits including PTO, retirement, health and life insurance.

Qualifications

• High school diploma or equivalent.
• Associate's Degree or 60 semester hours.
• Passing AZ parapro exam.
• CPR/First Aid certification (provided).

Responsibilities

• Instruct students individually or in small groups under the teacher's supervision.

Job Goal:

Provide instructional support under the supervision of the special education teacher in a special education environment or as required by an individualized education plan (IEP); and provide support to students with moderate to severe cognitive and/or physical needs in a specialized classroom

Minimum Qualifications:

• High school diploma or equivalent
• Title 1 schools only - ONE of the following:
• Associate's Degree -or-
• 60 semester hours from an accredited university, -or-
• Passing scoreon an AZ state-approved competency exam(parapro exam is administered by district at no cost to employee)
• CPR/First Aid (certification provided)
• Ability to operate standard office equipment, including a computer and related software

Core Job Functions:

• Instruct, within proximity to the teacher, individual students or small groups of students to reinforce material or skills initially introduced by the teacher
• Translate, when required, (both oral and written) for parents, students, staff, and others
• Assist students requiring support in addressing personal care needs due to a severe medical condition and/or physical limitations (e.g., toileting, feeding, dressing, suctioning, tube feeding, and emergency rescue medication, etc.) for the purpose of allowing students to function in a school environment
• Implement, under direction, behavioral plans developed by a team consisting of parent and school personnel for the purpose of assisting students in modifying behaviors that conflict with a positive academic and social environment
• Assist students with various physical, emotional, and academic needs, adhering to the guidelines of the student's I.E.P
• Assist with emergency rescue medications if necessary
• Assist in the provision of services in a small group or one-on-one
• Administer immediate basic first aid and medical assistance for the purpose of providing appropriate care for ill, medically fragile, and/or injured students
• Assist with assessments and data collection under the supervision of the certified teacher
• Operate and care for equipment used for instructional purposes
• Assist with the supervision of students during emergency drills, assemblies, play periods, lunch periods, and field trips
• Alert the teacher to any problem or special information about a student
• Participate in meetings and in-service training as required for the purpose of sharing information and/or improving knowledge and skills beneficial to assisting in the classroom
