HIGHLY QUALIFIED STATUS (HQ): Individual selected into this position must be Highly Qualified for this assignment. Applicants must possess a high school diploma or its recognized equivalent, and have completed the following requirements: Completed at least 48 semester hours of credit at an accredited college or university;or,obtained anassociate'sdegree or higher degree from an accredited college or university;or,passed theParaProAssessment prepared and administered by Educational Testing Services (ETS) with a score of at least 460.
SUMMARY DESCRIPTION
Under general supervision, assists teaching staff in providing individual and group instruction, including developing and maintaining records and instructional materials. Incumbent performs related work as required.
DISTINGUISHING CHARACTERISTICS
The Paraeducator Assistant I & II class differs from the Paraeducator Aide class in that the Paraeducator Assistant class is regularly required to perform academic instructional assistance for a significant portion of the assignment.

The work environment for a Paraeducator Assistant I typically involves working in a classroom setting, assisting teaching staff and students. This role requires frequent interaction with students, teachers, and other school personnel. The physical demands include standing, walking, and sitting for extended periods, as well as occasional lifting and carrying of educational materials and equipment. The position may also involve bending, reaching, and using audio-visual equipment. Additionally, the Paraeducator Assistant I must be able to maintain student discipline and order in various school areas, such as playgrounds, lunchrooms, and hallways, which may require quick and responsive actions to ensure a safe and conducive learning environment.

Salaries are subject to adjustment and may increase and decrease each fiscal year. New employees hired by Washoe County School District are normally placed on the entry step of the grade of the position.View the salary schedules here.
Additional Job Information
This position is a one year only position ending June 2026. This position is grant-funded and is contingent upon continued funding. The hiring administrator may retain incumbent for the duration of the grant without re-advertising.
Benefit packages are available for all employees, eligible employees who are regularly scheduled to work 27.5 hours per week or more receive full benefits of the District which include but are not limited to;
Temporary employees working less than 6 months do not receive benefits.
New employees will be fingerprinted upon hire and every five years thereafter and will have $58.50 deducted from their first paycheck to help defray the cost of fingerprinting. Non-licensed employees will have $58.50 deduction when their fingerprints are completed every five years. Fingerprint fees are subject to change.
