Job summary

New London Public Schools is hiring an instructional support staff member to provide comprehensive support for K–12 students. This full-time position emphasizes creating a positive learning environment and working collaboratively with teachers and families. A minimum of an Associate's degree is required.

Successful candidates will assist teachers, support students' diverse needs, and help maintain a safe classroom. Bilingual proficiency in Spanish or Haitian Creole is highly preferred.

Salary: Starting at $19.29 per hour

Employment Terms: Full-Time, 10-Month

Position Overview

Provides instructional, behavioral, and personal support to K–12 students under the direction of a licensed teacher, helping create a safe, inclusive, and engaging learning environment that promotes student success.

Typical Duties and Responsibilities
  • Assist teachers with implementing lesson plans and providing individualized or small-group instruction to support student learning.
  • Support students with academic, behavioral, social, and emotional needs while promoting a positive and inclusive classroom environment.
  • Monitor student progress, reinforce classroom expectations, and help maintain a safe, organized, and engaging learning environment.
  • Assist students with daily living activities, mobility, and personal care as needed, following district policies and individual student plans.
  • Collaborate with teachers, specialists, and families to support student success while maintaining confidentiality and professionalism.
Qualifications
  • Associate's degree or higher, completion of at least 60 college credits, or a passing score on the ParaPro Assessment.
Preferred Requirements
  • Bilingual proficiency in Spanish or Haitian Creole highly desirable.
