Battle's Transportation Inc. is a Service Disabled Veteran Owned Small Business (SDVOSB) that has provided transportation management services on behalf of federal, state, and local agencies, corporations, non‑profits, and individuals for over 40 years in the DC Metropolitan and Richmond, VA area. Battle's experience spans program management, government, healthcare, public transportation, athletics, and shuttle services, etc. Battle's is a District of Columbia Certified Business Enterprise that employs over 65 individuals.

Job Description

Battle’s Transportation Inc. provides full‑time and part‑time positions with the majority serving ambulatory and wheelchair clients.

Drivers are to transport members to their scheduled appointments in a safe and timely manner. Be a mature individual able to conduct door‑to‑door service and/or wheelchair transport for members.

Qualifications
Duties
  • Driver must be punctual in attendance and strict in maintaining manifest schedule.
  • Drivers working on weekends or holidays must return vehicle to Base and clock out during down time.
  • Be expert in handling their vehicle.
  • Have thorough knowledge of the roadways in and around the metropolitan Washington area.
  • Driver must complete pre and post daily vehicle inspections and onboard equipment. Malfunctions must be reported to the maintenance department as soon as possible.
  • Driver must maintain all required logs and include details which his employer seeks during the work shift.
  • Diffuse difficult situations and maintain order onboard vehicle.
  • Adjust to variables in normal working conditions, including adverse weather, traffic and construction, passenger problems, accidents and trip changes.
  • Secure vehicle in the event of accident or injury and communicate effectively with dispatch and operations staff.
  • Driver is required to maintain regular communication with Account Coordinator and/or operations staff of their location via Direct Connect or two‑way radio.
  • Provide excellent customer service including assistance on and off the vehicle, supplying information, and responding appropriately in the event of emergency.
  • Adhere to Attendance policy.
  • Professional appearance and demeanor.
  • Report all incidents and accidents as soon as possible to Dispatch and Safety Manager.
Requirements
  • Successful completion of wheelchair securement certification.
  • Successful completion of proper securement of all restraint and mobility devices.
  • Ability to assist clients in manual wheelchairs up and down three (3) stairs.
  • Ability to sustain long distance driving.
  • Complete mandatory contractual training.
  • Must have valid driver’s license.
  • Driving history must be in adherence with the Safety Violation Policy.
  • Must have clear local and national criminal history. No felony or misdemeanor involving drugs and/or violent crimes. (FBI clearance if applicable.)
  • Must have high school diploma or equivalency.
  • Verification of Child Protection Registry clearance.
  • DOT Medical clearance (annually).
  • First Aid and CPR certification (initial and recertification).
  • Substance Abuse and Alcohol Misuse program (pre‑employment, random and reasonable suspicion).
  • Read, acknowledge and adhere to Attendance Policy.
  • Read, acknowledge and adhere to Dress Code Policy.
  • Read, acknowledge and adhere to Safety Violation Policy.
  • Read, acknowledge and adhere to HIPAA Policy.
  • Read, acknowledge and adhere to Sexual Harassment Policy.
  • Read, acknowledge and adhere to Confidentiality Agreement.
  • All prescriptions and over the counter drugs you intake, any illness, injury or condition that may affect safety and performance must be reported to management immediately for clearance to work.

  • Ability to read, write and speak the English language clearly.
  • Ability to navigate the service area through the use of maps and/or directional equipment.
  • Ability to communicate effectively with passengers, passenger representatives and staff.
  • Ability to remain calm in emergency situations and ensure the safety of all passengers and employees.
  • Must be honest and reliable to his employers and must be friendly to his passengers.
  • Must always be prepared to work diligently for the team and create favorable impression of employer to the clients.
  • Must undertake full responsibility for the security and safety of passengers. Loading, unloading and securing wheelchairs.
  • Must abide by all traffic rules and sound traffic practices all time.
  • Ensure safe and clean vehicle condition at the start and end of each shift.
  • Refuel vehicle daily or as necessary.
