Job summary

Montgomery ISD seeks a dedicated paraprofessional to assist students with disabilities in various settings, including general education classrooms. You will support personal care, self-help, and behavior management under supervision of a certified special education teacher.

Education required includes a high school diploma or GED, plus a valid Texas educational aide certificate. Experience in self-care or behavior support is preferred; 187-day schedule applies.

Qualifications

• Must be at least 18 years old.
• High school diploma or GED.
• Meet formal academic assessment or have an associate's degree or two years of higher education.
• Hold a valid Texas educational aide certificate.
• Experience with children or adults in self-care or behavior support is preferred.

Responsibilities

• Assist students with disabilities in personal care and self-help needs across settings.
• Support classroom programs, including behavior management and instructional activities.
• Work with certified teachers and service providers on IEPs/Individual Health Plans.
• Utilize assistive technology as directed.

Job description

Job Primary Purpose

Assist specified student(s) with disabilities in a variety of settings to meet personal care, delegated nursing, and/or self-help needs; including self-contained and general education classrooms based on the needs of the student(s). Assist in the implementation of classroom programs, including self-help, behavior management, instructional programs, and assistive technology. Work under the general supervision of the principal and immediate direction of a certified special education teacher. Work with related service providers in the implementation of students' IEPs and/or Individual Health Plans.

Qualifications

Education/Certification:

• Applicant must be at least 18 years of age
• High school diploma or hold a General Educational Development (GED) certificate
• Have met formal academic assessment, associate's degree, or two years of study at an institution of higher learning*
• Valid Texas educational aide certificate

Special Knowledge/Skills

• Ability to work with children with disabilities
• Ability to follow verbal and written instructions
• Ability to communicate effectively
• Knowledge of general office equipment

Experience
