Job summary
The J. Paul Getty Trust is seeking an Associate Paper Conservator/Paper Conservator to lead examination and treatment of paper-based artefacts for exhibitions at the Getty Center. You will collaborate with conservators, mount-makers and interns, reporting to the Head of Conservation and Preservation.
The role demands high standards in conservation, documentation, and research, with opportunities to advance methodologies and contribute to catalogs and didactics.
Qualifications
- MA in conservation or equivalent degree.
- 5–6 years experience in conservation.
- 7–10 years experience in conservation (Paper Conservator).
Responsibilities
- Plan and install exhibitions and prepare paper-based objects.
- Perform conservation treatments to high standards.
- Document objects' condition and conservation activities.
- Develop standards for handling, storage, packing, and shipping.
- Collaborate with curators and staff on exhibition projects.
- Publish and present research; may do outreach and training.
- Supervise interns and staff as needed.
