Job summary

Saint Joseph Medical Group in Lexington, Kentucky is seeking an inpatient Palliative Care Physician to join our collaborative team. You will provide inpatient consults and symptom management within a multidisciplinary care environment.

Board-certified or board-eligible in Hospice and Palliative Medicine with an active KY license is required. Expect a Monday–Friday schedule, no call, and a strong recruitment package including sign-on and relocation assistance.

Qualifications

• MD or DO degree from an accredited institution.
• Board-certified or board-eligible (not required to be in Palliative Care).
• Experience in Palliative Care.
• Active Medical License in Kentucky or ability to obtain prior to employment.
• DEA certificate.
• Completion of an ACGME-accredited Residency.

Responsibilities

• Provide inpatient Palliative Care consultation and management.
• Collaborate with hospitalists, specialists, nursing, and other care team members.
• Address symptom management, goals of care, complex medical decision-making, and advance care planning.
• Work in a 100% inpatient Palliative Care practice.
• Join a collaborative team including two advanced practice providers.
• Utilize Epic electronic health record system.

Job Summary and Responsibilities

As our Inpatient Palliative Care Physician, you will join Saint Joseph Medical Group, part of CommonSpirit Health, as a member of our collaborative Palliative Care team in Lexington, Kentucky. You will practice within a supportive medical staff and multidisciplinary care environment while making a meaningful impact on patients and families facing serious and complex illnesses throughout Lexington and the surrounding Central Kentucky region.

Every day you will provide inpatient Palliative Care consultation and management, partnering closely with patients, families, hospitalists, specialists, nursing, and other members of the care team to address symptom management, goals of care, complex medical decision-making, and advance care planning.

To be successful in this role, you will be a board-certified or board-eligible physician with training or experience in Hospice and Palliative Medicine who is committed to compassionate, patient-centered care, interdisciplinary collaboration, and service to the community. You will be comfortable caring for medically complex hospitalized patients and supporting patients and families through serious illness and difficult healthcare decisions.

• Monday through Friday schedule
• No call responsibilities
• 100% inpatient Palliative Care practice
• Join a collegial and collaborative team of providers
• Work alongside two experienced Palliative Care advanced practice providers
• Collaborate closely with hospitalists, specialists, nursing, case management, chaplaincy, and other interdisciplinary team members
• Provide symptom management, goals-of-care discussions, advance care planning, and support for patients and families navigating serious illness
• Epic electronic health record system

We are offering a competitive salary guarantee, an additional quality-based bonus, and a comprehensive recruitment package that may include a sign-on bonus, student loan assistance, a residency or fellowship stipend, and relocation assistance. You will also receive one week of CME with a $4,000 allowance, paid malpractice insurance with tail coverage, and potential eligibility for federal and state student loan forgiveness programs.

Job Requirements

Required

• Doctor of Medicine (MD) or Doctor of Osteopathic Medicine (DO) degree from an accredited institution
• Board-certified or board-eligible (does NOT have to be in Palliative Care)
• Experience working in Palliative Care
• Active Medical License in the State of Kentucky, or ability to obtain prior to employment
• DEA certificate
• Completion of ACGME Residency (does NOT have to be Palliative Care-specific)
