Job Summary:

The registered nurse implements the nursing process for each patient assigned to their care, regardless of age (infancy to geriatric). They are responsible for the patient's care in accordance with Kentucky Nursing Laws and organizational policies and procedures. The nurse promotes positive patient outcomes and the delivery of quality care, actively participating in unit-based and hospital shared governance councils to foster a healthy professional practice environment.

Guided by National Professional Nursing Standards, nurses utilize critical thinking and clinical reasoning to exercise appropriate judgment. They collaborate with the inter-professional team to enhance patient outcomes and serve as role models through continuous professional development and lifelong learning. The Nursing Process serves as the framework for providing care.

Principal Duties and Responsibilities:

The major functions of this position include, but are not limited to, the following. Registered nurses may perform other duties as needed, and specific functions may evolve with professional practice standards:

  1. Perform assessment and reassessment of patients.
  2. Develop care plans using evidence-based standards.
  3. Provide care consistent with policies, procedures, current evidence-based standards, and Baptist Health Louisville's mission, vision, values, and care model.
  4. Evaluate patient responses to treatment.
  5. Apply critical thinking, clinical reasoning, organizational, and leadership skills.
Minimum Education, Training, and Experience Required:
  • Active Kentucky Nursing License
  • Bachelor of Science in Nursing (BSN) preferred
  • BLS certification within 90 days of hire
