Job summary

Alta Equipment Group in Providence, RI, is seeking an engineer to lead CAD design and structural analysis for pallet rack systems. You will create 2D layouts and 3D models using AutoCAD or SolidWorks, ensure compliance with RMI standards, and prepare permit-ready drawings with BOMs.

The role demands collaboration with sales, project managers, and installers, 75% travel, and a Bachelor’s in Industrial/Mechanical Engineering or Supply Chain Management, plus strong communication and problem-solving

Qualifications

  • Bachelor's degree in Industrial Engineering, Mechanical Engineering, or Supply Chain Management.
  • Ability to collaborate across teams and influence stakeholders.
  • Excellent communication, presentation, and organizational skills.
  • Proficiency in CRM tools, Microsoft Office Suite, and project management software.
  • Willingness and ability to travel regularly within the assigned region (approximately 75% travel).
  • Working knowledge of warehouse solutions and racking systems.

Responsibilities

  • CAD Design & Modeling: Create detailed 2D layouts and 3D models of pallet rack systems using AutoCAD, SolidWorks, or similar software.
  • Structural Engineering: Calculate weight loads, seismic forces, and stress tolerances for pallet rack systems.
  • Compliance & Safety: Ensure designs comply with RMI standards and local codes.
  • Permitting Support: Prepare engineering calculation packets and drawings for permits.
  • Project Collaboration: Work with sales, PMs, and installers to refine designs per warehouse constraints.
  • Quality Assurance: Review BOMs and drawings before production.

Key Responsibilities
  • CAD Design & Modeling: Create detailed 2D layouts and 3D models of racking systems using AutoCAD, SolidWorks, or specialized rack design software.
  • Structural Engineering: Calculate weight loads, seismic forces, stress tolerances, and overall structural stability for pallet rack systems.
  • Compliance & Safety: Ensure designs strictly comply with Rack Manufacturers Institute (RMI) standards, local building codes, and AISI specifications.
  • Permitting Support: Prepare complete engineering calculation packets and technical drawings for building permit submissions.
  • Project Collaboration: Work closely with sales, project managers, and installation crews to refine designs based on specific warehouse constraints and customer requirements.
  • Quality Assurance: Review and approve manufacturing drawings, bills of materials (BOM), and layout configurations prior to production.
Qualifications:
  • Bachelor's degree in Industrial Engineering, Mechanical Engineering, or Supply Chain Management
  • Proven ability to work collaboratively across teams and influence stakeholders at all levels.
  • Excellent communication, presentation, and organizational skills.
  • Proficiency in CRM tools, Microsoft Office Suite, and project management software.
  • Willingness and ability to travel regularly within the assigned region (approximately 75% travel)
  • Working knowledge of warehouse solutions and racking systems.
Preferred Attributes:
  • Experience in the non-mobile products and/or equipment market.
  • Technical background or ability to quickly learn complex product specifications.
  • Strong problem-solving skills and a proactive, self-starter attitude.
  • Hands-on experience with warehouse design, racking systems, or storage optimization solutions is a plus.
  • Familiarity with CAD software is beneficial, particularly for supporting warehouse layouts and creating visual proposals.
