Job summary

Alta Equipment Group is seeking a detail-oriented Pallet Rack Engineer with CAD expertise to design safe, efficient warehouse storage systems. You will lead the structural layouts, calculate loads, and ensure compliance with RMI standards and building codes.

In this role you will collaborate with sales, project managers, and installation crews, producing precise drawings, BOMs, and permit-ready documents. Travel ~75% within the region is required to support customer projects and field

Qualifications

• Bachelor's degree in Industrial Engineering, Mechanical Engineering, or Supply Chain Management.
• Experience designing pallet rack systems and warehouse layouts.
• Ability to travel ~75% within the assigned region.
• Strong communication and cross-functional collaboration skills.

Responsibilities

• CAD Design & Modeling: Create detailed 2D layouts and 3D models of racking systems using AutoCAD, SolidWorks, or specialized rack design software.
• Structural Engineering: Calculate weight loads, seismic forces, stress tolerances, and overall structural stability for pallet rack systems.
• Compliance & Safety: Ensure designs comply with Rack Manufacturers Institute (RMI) standards, local building codes, and AISI specifications.
• Permitting Support: Prepare engineering calculation packets and drawings for building permit submissions.
• Project Collaboration: Work with sales, project managers, and installation crews to refine designs per warehouse constraints and customer requirements.
• Quality Assurance: Review and approve drawings, BOMs, and layout configurations before production.

We are seeking a detail-oriented and experienced Pallet Rack Engineer with strong CAD expertise to design safe, efficient, and compliant warehouse storage systems. In this role, you will lead the structural design and engineering layouts of complex material handling environments. You will turn operational needs into precise technical drawings, calculate load capacities, and ensure all systems meet structural codes.

Key Responsibilities

• CAD Design & Modeling: Create detailed 2D layouts and 3D models of racking systems using AutoCAD, SolidWorks, or specialized rack design software.
• Structural Engineering: Calculate weight loads, seismic forces, stress tolerances, and overall structural stability for pallet rack systems.
• Compliance & Safety: Ensure designs strictly comply with Rack Manufacturers Institute (RMI) standards, local building codes, and AISI specifications.
• Permitting Support: Prepare complete engineering calculation packets and technical drawings for building permit submissions.
• Project Collaboration: Work closely with sales, project managers, and installation crews to refine designs based on specific warehouse constraints and customer requirements.
• Quality Assurance: Review and approve manufacturing drawings, bills of materials (BOM), and layout configurations prior to production.

Qualifications:

• Bachelor's degree in Industrial Engineering, Mechanical Engineering, or Supply Chain Management
• Proven ability to work collaboratively across teams and influence stakeholders at all levels.
• Excellent communication, presentation, and organizational skills.
• Proficiency in CRM tools, Microsoft Office Suite, and project management software.
• Willingness and ability to travel regularly within the assigned region (approximately 75% travel)
• Working knowledge of warehouse solutions and racking systems.

Preferred Attributes:

• Experience in the non-mobile products and/or equipment market.
• Technical background or ability to quickly learn complex product specifications.
• Strong problem-solving skills and a proactive, self-starter attitude.
• Hands‑on experience with warehouse design, racking systems, or storage optimization solutions is a plus.
• Familiarity with CAD software is beneficial, particularly for supporting warehouse layouts and creating visual proposals.
