Job summary

Rand Whitney Industries in Worcester, MA, is seeking a second-shift worker to prepare WIP loads, dress and strap loads, and operate the strapping machine for shipments. The role requires a high school diploma or GED and the ability to read and communicate in English for safety and operations.

Qualifications

Responsibilities

• Prepare work-in-process loads for palletizing.
• Dress loads to be strapped and run the strapping machine.
• Run the strapping machine to strap sheets and finished units for shipment.
• Review work schedule at start of shift and prepare for operations.
• Conduct safety checks on equipment and ensure supplies are available.
• Assist with setup and quality checks during production runs.
• Notify supervisors of defects and determine disposition of non-conforming product.
• Maintain neat stacking and proper labeling on pallets.

SUMMARY:

The primary functions of this position are to prepare work-in-process loads for palletizing, to dress loads to be strapped, and to run the strapping machine to strap the sheets and finished units that are to be shipped from the corrugator.

DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:

• Promptly, at start of shift, review work schedule, check equipment and supplies required to perform the work scheduled, and prepare for operations and/or check and perform/complete work that is left over from previous shift.
• Complete safety check of equipment.
• Ensure an adequate supply of plastic pallets is available at take-off conveyors.
• Perform set-up quality checks at order change for all outs and monitor quality throughout production run.
• Notify operators of any observed defect and consult with supervisor to determine appropriate disposition of non- conforming product.
• Sort, stack, and restack sheets as required to ensure uniform quality and neat stacking.
• Position corrugated sheets on plastic pallets and insert WIP identification labels into stacks with the label facing the forklift operator.
• Set up strapping area; locate and store dunnage.
• Cap units of material, place load tags and verify strapping instructions in the computer or on layouts. Strap each unit as required by instructions.
• During shift and at end of shift, clean and/or secure all equipment and machinery, and complete all required paperwork.
• Actively participate in on-the-job training for positions in line of progression including, but not limited to, stacker, baler, and slitter.
• Special projects and assignments as business dictates.
• Responsible for the maintenance, creation and control of all personally identifiable information or any other information protected by any Confidentiality or Privacy Standards or Company Policies that you have access or knowledge of, including but not limited to any state or federal regulations including HIPPA.

SKILLS AND QUALIFICATIONS:

• Must be 18 years of age.

• Must meet the ergonomic and physical requirements, as well as the physical base profile (below) for this position. Must be able to use, or learn to use, the equipment and tools used to perform this job.
• Must be able to perform all of the job functions safely.
• Must meet the company quality and performance standards for the job as specified in the Procedures Manuals. Must agree to wear the proper assigned PPE and shoes approved for this job as specified in Contact and Safety Requirements.

Preferred Qualifications:

• Prior machine operator e experience preferred.

PHYSICAL DEMANDS:

• While performing the duties of this job, the employee is regularly required to stand for a prolonged period as well as bending and stooping regularly
• Able to perform repetitive and physically demanding tasks for extended periods, lifting, walking, climbing, pushing, twisting, and pulling.
