Job summary

Owens Corning in Winchester, VA is seeking a Paint Prep/Assembler to apply paints, varnishes, and stains to interior and exterior surfaces and prepare surfaces for coating. You will remove old finishes, fill gaps, and prime as needed, ensuring color matches specs.

You will operate air and hand tools, inspect for defects, maintain tools, and uphold safety SOPs while meeting production timelines. High school diploma preferred; previous production experience valued.

Qualifications

• High School Diploma or equivalent, preferred not required.
• Previous work experience in a production environment, preferred.

Responsibilities

• Prepares paint, varnishes, and stains to interior and/or exterior surfaces
• Prepares surfaces for painting by removing old paint using paint removers, scrapers, wire brushes, or blowtorches
• Fills nail holes, cracks, and joints with caulk, putty, plaster, or other fillers using a caulking gun or a putty knife
• Successfully completing paint project
• Maintain tools and equipment and ensure proper and safe working condition
• Primes surfaces as necessary
• Verifies proper color to be sprayed
• Verifies surface is free of defects and mix buckets of paint if necessary
• Sprays surface of door as per established SOP
• Maintain a safe work environment
• Maintain clean work environment
• Makes sure parts match orders
• Performs other miscellaneous jobs as directed

Knowledge/Skills/Abilities

• Ability to efficiently use air/hand tools to paint product, ability to read/understand humidity chart.
• Knowledge of commonly-used concepts, practices, and procedures with paint.
• Read and interpret ticket, door/customer quality specs
• Identify defects
• Knowledge of sanders, planers, hand tools putty knife, sanding block wood chisel
• High attention to detail detecting defects.
• Regular attendance and timeliness is an essential function of the job in order to avoid any disruptions in production and customer service
• Follow all operational and safety SOP’s as written
