Job summary

Owens Corning in Winchester, VA is seeking a production Paint Prep worker to prepare door slabs and related components for refinishing. You will apply base coats, primers, and finishes, verify color accuracy, and ensure surfaces are free of defects according to SOPs.

The role requires reading quality tickets, using hand and air tools, and maintaining a clean, safe work area to support production and customer service. Prior production experience and basic paint knowledge are helpful.

Qualifications

  • High school diploma or equivalent; production experience preferred.
  • Exposure to paint, varnishes, and stains is a plus.
  • Ability to read and follow quality specs and tickets.

Responsibilities

  • Prepare paint, varnishes, and stains for interior/exterior surfaces.
  • Remove old paint and prep surfaces for refinishing.
  • Fill holes and joints with caulk or putty using appropriate tools.
  • Prime surfaces as required and verify color accuracy.
  • Spray surfaces per SOP and ensure defect-free finish.
  • Maintain clean, safe work area and proper part matching.
  • Assist with other tasks as directed.

Overview

Prepare door slabs and related components for refinishing and ensure measurements and milling are correct, repair any components to ensure quality. Applies paint, varnishes, and stains to interior and/or exterior surfaces. Prepares surfaces for painting by removing old paint using paint removers, scrapers, wire brushes, or blowtorches. Fills nail holes, cracks, and joints with caulk, putty, plaster, or other fillers using a caulking gun or a putty knife. Primes surfaces as necessary.

Responsibilities
  • Prepares paint, varnishes, and stains to interior and/or exterior surfaces
  • Prepares surfaces for painting by removing old paint using paint removers, scrapers, wire brushes, or blowtorches.
  • Fills nail holes, cracks, and joints with caulk, putty, plaster, or other fillers using a caulking gun or a putty knife
  • Primes surfaces as necessary
  • Verifies proper color to be sprayed
  • Verifies surface is free of defects
  • Sprays surface of door as per established SOP
  • Maintain a safe and clean work environment
  • Makes sure parts match orders
  • Performs other miscellaneous jobs as directed
Knowledge/Skills/Abilities
  • Ability to efficiently use air/hand tools to paint product, ability to read/understand humidity chart
  • Knowledge of commonly-used concepts, practices, and procedures with paint
  • Read and interpret ticket, door/customer quality specs
  • Identify defects
  • Knowledge of sanders, planers, hand tools putty knife, sanding block wood chisel
  • High attention to detail detecting defects
  • Regular attendance and timeliness is an essential function of the job in order to avoid disruptions in production and customer service
  • Follow all operational and safety SOP's as written
Qualifications
  • High School Diploma or equivalent, preferred but not required
  • Previous work experience in a production environment, preferred
