Job summary

ADM in Clinton, IA is seeking a Painter - Skilled Craft to maintain coating of industrial equipment and facilities across a manufacturing site. You will perform abrasive blasting, surface preparation, coating application, and asset preservation to extend plant life.

Responsibilities

  • Inspect equipment, structures, and processes to identify corrosion, coating failures, and restoration needs.
  • Prepare surfaces for painting using blasting, grinding, sanding, cleaning, and chemical prep methods.
  • Apply paints, primers, coatings, linings, and protective finishes to equipment and facilities.
  • Operate spray equipment, brushes, rollers, and blasting tools.
  • Perform surface profile preparation per coating specs and best practices.
  • Restore industrial assets with corrosion-resistant coatings and protective systems.
  • Read and interpret coating specs and work instructions for correct methods.
  • Safely handle and dispose of paints and solvents per safety rules.
  • Assemble, disassemble, and maintain painting and blasting equipment.
  • Troubleshoot coating or equipment issues to maintain quality.
  • Maintain housekeeping and tool organization on site.

The Painter is responsible for the inspection, preparation, restoration, protection, and coating of industrial equipment, structures, piping, tanks, buildings, and process systems throughout a manufacturing facility. This position plays a critical role in corrosion prevention, asset preservation, equipment restoration, and extending the service life of plant infrastructure.The successful candidate will perform abrasive blasting, surface preparation, coating application, equipment restoration, and industrial painting activities while ensuring compliance with safety requirements, coating specifications, and quality standards.

Key Responsibilities
  • Inspect equipment, structures, buildings, and process systems to identify corrosion, coating failures, deterioration, and restoration needs.
  • Prepare surfaces for painting and coating applications using abrasive blasting, grinding, sanding, cleaning, and chemical preparation methods.
  • Apply industrial paints, primers, coatings, linings, sealants, and protective finishes to equipment, piping, tanks, floors, structural steel, and facility assets.
  • Operate conventional spray equipment, airless spray systems, brushes, rollers, and blasting equipment.
  • Perform abrasive blasting and surface profile preparation in accordance with coating specifications and industry best practices.
  • Restore and preserve industrial assets by applying corrosion-resistant and protective coating systems.
  • Read and interpret coating specifications, work instructions, and technical requirements to ensure proper application methods and material selection.
  • Safely handle, mix, store, and dispose of paints, coatings, solvents, thinners, and related materials in accordance with safety and environmental requirements.
  • Assemble, disassemble, inspect, clean, and maintain painting and blasting equipment.
  • Troubleshoot coating failures, equipment issues, and application problems to maintain quality standards.
  • Maintain excellent housekeeping, tool maintenance, and worksite organization standards.

  • Previous experience in any of the craft areas (electrical, welding, millwright, etc.) is required.

On-the-Job Training Requirements:
  • Complete ADM safety, food safety, quality, and environmental training
  • Participate in company planned operations training
  • Equipment training may include but not limited to JLG, forklift, non-DOT truck, reach lift, etc.
Minimum Requirements
  • Must be 18 years or older
  • Must be eligible to work in the United States without visa sponsorship
  • Ability to understand and effectively communicate in English (verbal/written)
  • Strong fundamental skills (math, reading, writing and verbal communication)

  • Experience in an Industrial Manufacturing setting and/or similar military environment (preferred)

Physical Requirements and Working Conditions
  • Ability to move about on a work site by ascending/descending stairs, extensive walking, climbing steps or ladders, prolonged periods of standing and sitting, stooping, bending, kneeling, or squatting frequently
  • Ability to operate equipment or machinery that may be located at different heights with open view grating from multiple elevations or in confined spaces
  • Ability to lift up to 50 pounds overhead
  • Ability to traverse two (2) miles or more during the course of a workday
  • Ambient conditions - Work area is, typically, a non-air-conditioned production environment. Working in in extreme heat and cold in all seasonal elements, both indoors and outside on a regular basis.
  • Atmosphere: May come in contact with Dust (Peanut - known allergen), corn, cotton, canola seed, chemicals and odor
  • Must be able to work around vibrating equipment and noise levels that may reach or exceed 85 decibels and will require use of hearing protection for most of the work shift
  • Employees are required to wear all company provided Personal Protective Equipment (i.e., hard-hats, safety glasses, earplugs, uniforms, and steel-toed boots) in addition to job specific PPE requirements (i.e., fall protection equipment and respirators)
