Job summary

TTUHSC is seeking an experienced painter to apply coats of paint, varnish, stain, enamel, or lacquer to decorate and protect interior and exterior surfaces on campus facilities. The role involves surface prep, masking, and applying decorative finishes, with potential supervision of assistants.

Required is a high school diploma and three years of related painting experience. Preferred are experience with maps/blueprints and commercial-level painting tasks.

Responsibilities

  • Reads work order or receives instructions from supervisor regarding painting.
  • Smooths surfaces and prepares surfaces for painting by removing old paint.
  • Fills nail holes, cracks, and joints with caulk, putty, plaster, or filler.
  • Removes fixtures from walls prior to painting.
  • Sets up drop cloths and masking to protect surfaces during painting.
  • Paints surfaces with brushes, spray gun, or rollers.
  • Simulates wood grain, marble, brick, or tile effects.
  • Applies paint with cloth, brush, sponge or fingers for decorative effects.
  • Erects scaffolding or ladders as needed.
  • Washes surfaces prior to painting with mildew remover.

Applies coats of paint, varnish, stain, enamel, or lacquer to decorate and protect interior or exterior surfaces, trimmings, and fixtures of buildings and other structures. May prepare estimates of work time and cost. May directly supervise painters.

Major/Essential Functions
  • Reads work order or receives instructions from supervisor regarding painting.
  • Smooths surfaces and removes old paint from surfaces to prepare surfaces for painting.
  • Fills nail holes, cracks, and joints with caulk, putty, plaster, or other filler.
  • Removes fixtures such as pictures and electric switch covers from walls prior to painting.
  • Spreads drop cloths over floors and room furnishings, and covers surfaces such as baseboards, door frames, and windows with masking tape and paper to protect surfaces during painting.
  • Paints surfaces with brushes, spray gun, or paint rollers.
  • Simulates wood grain, marble, brick, or tile effects.
  • Applies paint with cloth, brush, sponge or fingers to create special effects.
  • Erects scaffolding or sets up ladders to perform tasks above ground level.
  • Washes surfaces prior to painting with mildew remover.
Required Qualifications

High School or equivalent. Three years of job-related experience, training, etc.

Preferred Qualifications
  • Commercial level painting experience.
  • Experience and/or knowledge reading maps/blueprints/sketches.
