County of Hawai'i in Hawaii's Kailua-Kona area seeks a skilled painter to prepare surfaces and apply decorative and protective coatings by brush or spray gun. Two permanent full-time vacancies exist in the Parks Maintenance Division; eligibility list may apply to other positions as they arise.
Responsibilities include surface preparation, painting interiors and exteriors, estimating materials, and supervising helpers when needed. Knowledge of safety and trade practices is essential.
Performs skilled painting work in preparing a variety of surfaces for painting and applying paint and other decorative and protective coatings by brush or spray gun; and performs other related duties as required.
There are two (2) immediate permanent full-time vacancies with the Department of Parks & Recreation - Parks Maintenance Division in Kailua-Kona.
The eligible list may be used for other permanent and temporary vacancies as they arise during the life of the list. Temporary appointment may lead to conversion to permanent appointment.
Training and Experience:
Examination: All applicants who meet the minimum qualification requirements will be assigned a score of 70 points. An education and experience evaluation will be conducted based on the applicant's training, education and experience as presented in the application.

Knowledge of: Practices, tools, and equipment used in applying paints, varnishes, stains, lacquers, and enamels and other painting materials; methods of cleaning brushes and other painting equipment; methods of preparing surfaces for the application of paint and other similar coverings; methods of preparing, mixing, blending, and preserving different painting materials; and occupational hazards and safety precautions of the trade.
Ability to: work from riggings and scaffolds; estimate time and materials needed to perform a job; mix and match paints; recommend blending, harmonizing, and contrasting colors; and understand and follow oral and written instructions.
Physical Requirements: Persons seeking appointment to positions in this class must meet the health and physical condition standards deemed necessary and proper to perform the essential functions of the position with or without reasonable accommodations.

Example: Twelve months of experience at 60 hours per week is equivalent to one year, not one and one-half years.
