Job description

Position Summary

The Painter Apprentice is an entry-level position designed to provide hands‑on training and experience in industrial painting and coating processes. This position will work alongside experienced painters to learn proper surface preparation, paint application, equipment operation, safety procedures, and quality standards.

The ideal candidate is dependable, safety-conscious, willing to learn, and interested in developing a career in industrial painting.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities
  • Assist experienced painters with the preparation, painting, and finishing of industrial equipment, components, and fabricated parts.
  • Prepare surfaces for painting by cleaning, sanding, grinding, masking, and removing dirt, rust, grease, and other contaminants.
  • Learn proper mixing and preparation of paints, primers, thinners, and coatings according to specifications.
  • Assist with the application of primers, paints, and protective coatings.
  • Learn to properly operate spray guns and other painting equipment.
  • Mask and protect surfaces that are not intended to be painted.
  • Inspect painted surfaces for proper coverage, finish, and quality.
  • Assist with touch‑ups and corrections as required.
  • Properly clean and maintain spray guns, hoses, tools, and painting equipment.
  • Maintain a clean and organized paint area.
  • Handle and store paints, solvents, and other materials properly.
  • Follow work instructions, job specifications, and supervisor direction.
  • Follow all company safety policies and procedures.
  • Wear required personal protective equipment (PPE).
  • Assist with material handling and movement of parts as required.
  • Perform other duties as assigned.
Work Environment

Work is performed primarily in an industrial manufacturing environment. Employees may be exposed to paint fumes, dust, noise, chemicals, temperature variations, and moving equipment. Appropriate PPE and established safety procedures must be followed at all times.

  • High school diploma or equivalent preferred.
  • Previous industrial painting experience is not required.
  • Willingness and ability to learn the industrial painting trade.
  • Ability to follow verbal and written instructions.
  • Strong attention to detail and commitment to quality.
  • Dependable attendance and punctuality.
  • Ability to work independently and as part of a team.
  • Willingness to work in a manufacturing environment.
Physical Requirements
  • Ability to stand and walk for extended periods.
  • Ability to bend, kneel, reach, climb, and work in various positions.
  • Ability to lift and move up to 50 pounds.
  • Ability to safely wear required PPE, including respiratory protection when required.
  • Ability to perform repetitive movements associated with surface preparation and painting.
