Description
This position is responsible for painting and sandblasting heavy equipment, oil field pump skids, generator packages, and related equipment in a shop environment.

Essential Functions
- Perform painting preparation to assure quality paint application
- Operate painting or coating tools on assigned equipment to improve appearance and customer satisfaction
- Straighten body panels and fenders
- Fill small dents that cannot be worked out with body filler
- File, grind, sand, and smooth filled or repaired surfaces
- Sand or sandblast areas to be painted and cover bumpers, windows, and trim with masking tape or paper for protection
- Prime and paint repaired surfaces with care, skill and detail using applicable manufacturer paints and standards; detail equipment
- Maintain paint booth and painting equipment, ensuring cleanliness and safe operation
- Perform light mechanical work to replace parts (e.g., handles, hinges, panels)
- Remove and apply equipment decals
- Perform final checks on assembly and installation of replaced parts
- Control labor costs at or below quoted flat rates to achieve departmental goals
- Complete necessary paperwork daily for timely invoicing
- Maintain and control company property and resources to ensure cleanliness, reliability, and cost minimization
- Complete special projects as requested by the department supervisor to meet customer and/or business needs
- Maintain and complete daily/monthly usage or material consumption reports required for EPA/OSHA; procure, supply, and maintain MSDS information records for all products
- Dispose of hazardous waste appropriately and keep equipment and work areas clean and orderly
- Work overtime as required by workload and customer needs
- Update job knowledge by participating in educational opportunities
- Work safely at all times and adhere to all applicable safety policies, company policies, procedures, and standards
- Maintain regular and punctual attendance

Knowledge, Skills, And Abilities
- General knowledge of tools, equipment, methods, materials, and terminology used in the paint trade
- General knowledge of safety procedures related to paints, solvents, glues, tools, and equipment
- Basic knowledge of estimating, planning, and controlling cost of repair jobs
- Proficiency with current computer software, related hardware, and machine electronic systems
- Skilled in the application of paints and other finishes by brush or spray gun
- Quality control analysis skills to conduct tests and inspections of products, services, or processes to evaluate quality or performance
- Operation and control skills for controlling equipment or systems
- Equipment selection skills to determine the kinds of tools and equipment needed to do a job
- Ability to operate a forklift and an overhead crane
- Ability to operate controls of a machine or vehicle to exact positions repeatedly
- Ability to operate hand tools, power tools, pneumatic tools, and equipment used in mechanical repair
- Precise coordination of finger movements to grasp, manipulate, or assemble small objects
- Reading, writing, and understanding information
- Listening to and understanding information and ideas presented verbally
- Ability to learn the more complex aspects of the paint trade
Requirements
- Three or more years of experience in painting and/or body work in automotive or similar shop environment preferred
- High school diploma or equivalent preferred; associate degree or technical training from an accredited vocational school strongly preferred

Physical Requirements
- Must be able to move objects and use abdominal and lower back muscles to provide support over time without fatigue
- Frequently moves materials or equipment weighing up to 80 pounds
- Constant movement and use of limbs; requires good manual dexterity, coordination, and stamina
- Ascends/descends with gradual or continuous progress by oneself, using both hands and feet; climbs ladders and/or equipment
- Can maneuver safely and work underneath equipment
- Reacts to visual, auditory, and other signals, including alarms and instructions; required to visually inspect work
Work Environment
- Works indoors in non-controlled environmental conditions and around moving mechanical parts, unfavorable fumes and odors, and hazardous chemicals
- May be exposed to weather extremes when working outside in conditions that include inclement weather, heat, cold, and humidity
- Exposed to sounds and noise levels that may be distracting or uncomfortable
- Exposure to contaminants, small quantities of chemicals, dust, steam, high-pressure water, and high-speed rotating equipment
- Requires wearing specialized protective or safety equipment
- Requires performing work in cramped spaces and/or high places
- Requires being exact or highly accurate
