Job summary

Wabtec in Yankton, South Dakota, is seeking an individual to join its Paint Department in an industrial painting role. Job Description

L&M Radiator, Inc. is a global designer, manufacturer, and distributor of MESABI cooling and heat transfer solutions that are custom‑made for heavy equipment in the mining, oil, gas, construction and heavy industrial industries. We are looking for an individual to join our Paint Department. This position will work directly with other painters and the paint supervisor on a daily basis to help meet production goals. It may also involve working with research and development and engineering to test equipment, tools, and products.

This shift is Sunday – Thursday 10:00 pm to 6:00 am. Overtime is possible depending on production needs. The role offers a $1 per hour shift‑differential pay for work clocked into midnight hours.

Responsibilities

• Paint products using customer specifications for paint colors to ensure durability.
• Change paint filters and maintain paint supplies.
• Notify supervisor, quality, and purchasing of supplies needed.
• Operate paint guns, pressure washer, scissor lift, overhead crane, sandblaster, and related tools.

Typical Day

• Ensure accuracy and quality by following company procedures and specifications.
• Maintain an accurate time‑keeping record.
• Report problems to supervisor.
• Keep a clean and safe work area.
• Maintain inventory and prepare parts for painting.
• Follow specific procedures for customer products.
• Maintain and clean spray gun.
• Assist in other production areas when qualified.
• Perform work safely and follow all safety guidelines and procedures.
• Domestic and international travel may be required depending on project.
• Perform related duties as required by supervisor.

Physical Demands

• Wear correct PPE – earplugs, protective eyewear, steel‑toed boots, and a work‑provided uniform (gloves when necessary).
• Wear a paint suit, hood, respirator, and gloves.
• Maintain a clean‑shaven face.
• Lift a minimum of 50 lbs.
• Stand on concrete for 8–10 hours.
• Work in high heat conditions.
• Use power tools while standing, twisting, crouching, standing on a step ladder, or holding them above your head.
• Practice and maintain safe work conditions.

Entry Level Knowledge, Skills and Abilities

• Regular and reliable attendance.
• Ability to use a mil thickness gauge.
• Knowledge of painting and spraying.
• Ability to use hand and power tools.
• Clear written and verbal communication in English.
• Physical strength sufficient to perform job duties.
• Ability to understand and carry out simple oral and written instructions.
• Strong mechanical aptitude.
• Required to wear a respirator and PPE uniform.
• Pass a pre‑employment written math test, physical, drug, and background test.

Preferred Qualifications

• One year of painting experience.
• Knowledge of Epicor or a similar ERP system.
• Experience in Lean Manufacturing.

The hourly range for this role is $23.00–$35.00. The actual hourly rate offered to a candidate may be influenced by training, transferable skills, work experience, education, business needs, market demands, and location.

This role is also eligible for a performance bonus.
