Qualifications

  • Ability to understand and follow all shop painting methods and departmental procedures.
  • Ability to understand and follow all shop safety practices.

Responsibilities

  • Apply surface coatings to completed parts using hand held spray gun following established paint shop practices.
  • Visually check parts before painting to ensure part prep and after painting for paint runs and light or missed spots.
  • Ensure the proper handling and disposal of waste materials as directed by safety specialist.
  • Clean and maintain paint gun and related parts.
  • Learn all aspects of the painting process and be able fill in for any position as directed by supervisor.
  • Operate paint equipment and machines, handle hazardous material, and manage workflow of parts.
  • Correct work as directed; repair nicks, scratches or other small imperfections in the finish.
  • Clean up work areas, equipment, supplies and materials; apply standard safety practices and procedures.
  • Prepare and submit requests and supportive documentation.
  • Perform a variety of routine and preventive maintenance.
  • Additional duties as assigned.

Job description

JOB SUMMARY: The painter uses an electro-static paint system, maintains worksite and equipment, and fills in anywhere in the painting or assembly process as needed.

DUTIES & RESPONSIBILITIES: Under general supervision, performs routine and preventive maintenance painting duties, and a full range of specialized painting projects including, painting large structures in severe corrosive environments; performs inspections, clean ups, storage and disposal of paint products; and operates various tools and equipment.

Specifically:

  • Apply surface coatings to completed parts using hand held spray gun following established paint shop practices.

EDUCATION, EXPERIENCE, SKILLS & QUALIFICATIONS:

  1. HS Diploma or equivalent.
  2. Prior prep or painting experience in manufacturing environment, preferred.
  3. Proficient math skills.
  4. Ability to perform all operations within acceptable quality and time standards.
  5. Ability to recognize quality expected and be able to reproduce it.
  6. Ability to understand and practice shop painting methods and departmental procedures.
  7. Ability to understand and follow all shop safety practices.

SAFETY REQUIREMENTS:

Must wear required PPE. Ability to lift, push or pull 50 lbs., 75 lbs. on occasion. This position is very active and while performing the duties of this position, employee is regularly required to stand for extended periods of time, walk, bend, kneel, stoop, twist and crouch. Ability to use paint gun and use hands and fingers, grip; reach; balance; and talk and hear. Uses close vision for paint inspection. Demonstrates accountability for all safety procedures.
