Job summary

Titan Talent Development, LLC is seeking a Marine Painter to perform painting and coating operations in shipyard environments in Norfolk, VA. You will prepare surfaces, mix coatings, and apply primers and paints using brushes, rollers, and spray equipment.

The role requires 3+ years in marine, industrial, or commercial painting, familiarity with surface prep, and the ability to work in confined spaces following safety procedures.

Qualifications

  • Minimum of 3+ years of marine, industrial, or commercial painting experience preferred.
  • Shipyard, marine, or heavy industrial painting experience strongly preferred.
  • Knowledge of surface preparation, paint mixing, coating systems, and application techniques.
  • Experience with brush, roller, and spray painting methods.
  • Ability to read and follow work instructions, specifications, and safety procedures.
  • Ability to work in confined spaces and other challenging shipboard environments.

Responsibilities

  • Prepare shipboard, marine, and industrial surfaces for painting and coating application.
  • Remove old paint, rust, scale, grease, dirt, and other contaminants using scraping, chipping, sanding, grinding, and mechanical methods.
  • Perform pressure washing and other surface-cleaning methods as required.
  • Inspect surfaces before painting to ensure proper preparation and cleanliness.
  • Mix paints, primers, solvents, and protective coatings according to manufacturer specifications and job requirements.
  • Apply primers, paints, sealers, and protective coatings using brushes, rollers, spray equipment, and other approved methods.
  • Maintain proper coating thickness, coverage, and finish according to project specifications.
  • Perform touch-up and detail painting as required.
  • Set up and maintain painting equipment, hoses, spray guns, pumps, and related tools.
  • Clean and maintain painting equipment after use.
  • Install and maintain containment, ventilation, masking, and protective barriers as required.
  • Perform painting operations in tanks, voids, confined spaces, and other restricted-access areas while following all safety requirements.
  • Identify surface defects, coating issues, and other problems and notify supervision when corrections are required.
  • Maintain a clean and organized work area.
  • Follow all company, shipyard, OSHA, and project-specific safety requirements.
  • Properly use required personal protective equipment, including respirators and protective clothing.
  • Work independently with minimal supervision and complete assigned tasks safely and efficiently.
  • Follow both simple and complex instructions and adapt to changing job-site conditions.
  • Maintain regular and reliable attendance.
  • Perform other duties as assigned based on project needs.

Physical Requirements
  • Ability to lift, carry, push, and pull
  • Ability to stand, walk, kneel, bend, climb, and work in awkward positions for extended periods.
  • Ability to work in confined spaces, tanks, voids, and elevated shipboard areas.
  • Ability to work from ladders, scaffolding, lifts, and elevated platforms when required.
  • Must be able to wear required PPE, including respirators, protective suits, gloves, hard hats, safety glasses, and hearing protection.
  • Ability to work in wet, dusty, hot, cold, and industrial shipyard environments.
  • Ability to perform repetitive painting and surface-preparation tasks for extended periods.
Work Schedule & Hours
  • Full-time position averaging 40–56 hours per week, including weekends as required.
  • Overtime and extended hours may be required based on project demands.
