Job summary

The City of New York is seeking a Painter to perform both inside and outside painting tasks, including prep, patching, and applying finishes. The role requires setting up containment for remediation of environmental hazards and operating ladders, scaffolds, and spray equipment as needed.

You will maintain records, and may assist with wallpaper hanging and related duties. Strong emphasis on safety, lead-paint handling where applicable, and ability to work on diverse sites across NYC.

  • Alternative: at least three years and sufficient apprentice experience totaling five years.

Job description

Painter


under supervision, do inside and outside patching and painting of a general nature, including all coats and prep work. They set up and/or breakdown containment for and perform remediation of environmental hazards associated with the painting trade including pre and post renovation clean up. They work on and from ladders, platforms, and scaffolds as jobs may require; erect ladders; may rig lines and scaffolds; prepare, fill, and prime surfaces for painting; mix paint components and match colors; apply paint with a brush, roller, or spray gun to surfaces; apply plaster to surfaces including skimming walls and taping joints; take proper care of all materials, tools, and equipment; keep work records as required; may hang wallpaper; and may operate a motor vehicle in the performance of assigned duties. All Painters perform related work not limited to the previously described.


Some of the physical activities performed by Painters and environmental conditions experienced are: working in extreme weather conditions: lifting and carrying objects weighing up to 65 pounds; bending, kneeling, and crouching while working; working in confined spaces; and using their vision to check color matches: cleaning mold and mildew and other unknown substances from areas to be worked on; Scraping and Repairing substrates and components known / or unknown to contain lead.

Minimum Qualifications


  • Five years of full-time satisfactory experience as a painter acquired within the last fifteen years; or

  • At least three years of full-time satisfactory experience as a painter acquired within the last fifteen years and sufficient full-time satisfactory apprentice painter experience to make up a total of five years of acceptable experience. Six months of acceptable experience will be credited for each year of apprentice painter experience.
