Job summary

The J. Iverson Riddle Developmental Center in Morganton, NC is seeking a Maintenance/Construction Technician I (S) to keep the painted finish across 90 buildings and wood structures.

You will brush, roll, or spray finishes and perform prep, patching, priming, sealing, staining, painting, and polyurethane tasks for interior and exterior surfaces. You will also maintain doors, frames, cabinetry, furniture, and specialty items; glaze windows, stripe asphalt, and pressure wash.

Qualifications

• Commercial and/or residential painting experience required.
• Experience using ladders, scaffolds, and bucket trucks up to 40 feet.
• Conventional and airless spraying experience.
• Knowledge of standard paint trade practices.
• Must have a current and valid NC driver's license.

Description of Work

This position is part of a 5-member paint crew assigned to the Maintenance Department at J. Iverson Riddle Developmental Center. The primary purpose of this position is to maintain the painted finish on all interior and exterior walls of all 90 buildings & wood structures on campus. Painting applications will consist of applying finishes by brush, roller, or conventional spraying. Additional duties include prep, patch, prime, seal, stain, paint, and polyurethane. This position is also responsible for maintaining and painting of doors and frames, custom cabinetry, furniture, specialty metal or wood items. Moreover, this position will glaze windows, stripe and mark asphalt, and pressure wash.

JIRDC Maintenance Department staff are designated Mandatory and required to work during adverse weather events and facility emergencies as needed and requested.

Knowledge Skills and Abilities/Management Preferences

Candidates now meet the minimum qualifications of a position if they meet the minimum education and experience listed on the vacancy announcement.

The Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities (KSAs )/Management Preferences are not required. Applicants who possess the following skills are preferred:

• Experience as a commercial and/or residential painter.
• Experience working from 40-foot ladders, scaffolds, & bucket trucks.
• Conventional & Airless spraying experience.
• Working knowledge of the standard practices of the Paint Trade.
• Current and valid NC Drivers License.

Salary Range

$31,200.00 – $53,812.00

Physical Requirements

Must meet physical requirements to wear OSHA approved respirator, including receiving Asbestos and Lead Paint O& M training. Must have good balance & eyesight, and the ability to perform heavy tasks as required.

This Position Is Designated As Mandatory And Must Report Or Stay Over During Adverse Weather Events.

Shift Hours

Shift Hours: 1** st **** shift (7:30 am – 4:00 pm), Monday – Friday. Work hours may include weekends, holidays & evenings after 4:00 pm as necessary, emergency or inclement weather callback.**
