Qualifications

• Forklift Operator’s License training completed.
• Eye test required every three years.
• Annual EHS training (respirator and environmental).
• Involvement in 6S, Value Stream Mapping or TPM activities.

Summary of the position:

The Painter position requires an individual to perform skilled painting duties in such a manner as to provide protection of surfaces against rust, oxidation, and abrasion while providing eye appealing finish.

Duties and responsibilities:

• Prepares machines/assembly part for paint adhesion, i.e., sanding, masking etc.
• Applies paint with brush, roller and spray gun to surfaces that need protection.
• Applies primers, sealers and finishes while monitoring pressure, paint temperature, ratios and pot life.
• Prepares coating material including ascertaining proper mixture for conditions.
• Checks equipment including pump lines, tips, respirator, fluid levels, etc.
• Services and cleans booth, equipment for routine purposes.
• Maintains records/inventory of paint usage, PPE cleaning and booth filter changes.
• Maintains, cleans, and properly stores painting equipment, e.g., gloves, coveralls, respirators, guns, cups, pots, etc.
• Confers with representatives of paint and plant quality control, as needed.
• Maintains all paints, supplies, and proper labeling, i.e., disposal of empty paint containers and transportation of paint waste.

Qualifications:

Education:

• High School education or equivalent.

Professional experience:

• Medical clearance evaluation prior to employee’s first use of a respirator and annual evaluation thereafter.
• Basic reading skills necessary to perform the functions of the job.
• Basic computer skills required.
• 1-2 years of current experience in manufacturing painting/airless paint equipment.
• Experience in application of paints and primers.
• Must be familiar with painting equipment, material preparation and surface bonding characteristics.
• Basic mechanical aptitude a plus.
• Successfully complete training and receive a Forklift Operator’s License.
• Eye test required every three years.
• Complete basic computer training. Utilize SAP update / inquiry files, QMS, and produce serial plates.
• Complete paint pump training.
• Complete annual EHS training (respirator and environmental training).
• Must be involved in 6S activities, Value Stream Mapping activity, Total Productive Maintenance.

Key behaviors:

• Light to medium lifting. Tools used: spray guns, air sanders, operation of forklift.
• Lifting up to 35 lbs.
• Lifting over 35 lbs. requires a lifting device, crane/hoist, or assistance from another associate.
• Required to be clean shaven to properly wear safety equipment.
• Fumes from reducers, urethane products, epoxy products, and isocyanates.
• Noise and heat.
• May need to climb ladders.
• Use of fall restraint equipment.
• Participate in EHS quarterly audits, if required.
• Required to wear the proper PPE equipment for the work area.
• Required to attend scheduled toolbox and safety meetings.
• Must immediately report injuries or unsafe conditions to the supervisor.
