Qualifications

  • Five to ten years of painting experience or equivalent.
  • Solid knowledge of commercial/construction painting techniques.
  • Skill in using painting and preparation tools.
  • Ability to follow project instructions and safety procedures.
  • Valid driver’s license and reliable transportation.

Responsibilities

  • Clean walls and surfaces to remove dirt, grease, and contaminants and promote coating adhesion.
  • Prepare surfaces by scraping, sanding, priming, and sealing as needed for the finish.
  • Fill cracks, holes, and joints with caulk, putty, plaster, or other fillers.
  • Protect surrounding surfaces and equipment with drop cloths and coverings.
  • Move furniture and equipment and coordinate with others as needed.
  • Apply paint, varnish, shellac, enamel, and other coatings to designated surfaces.
  • Select application tools and techniques to ensure consistent coverage and high-quality finish.
  • Work safely from ladders, scaffolding, and approved staging.
  • Pick up paint, materials, and supplies per project specifications.
  • Maintain neat work areas and store materials properly.

Job description

Job Title: Painter

Schedule: Flexible work hours, including 8- or 10-hour shifts

Summary: The Painter works with the General Manager and building team to support the construction and remodeling of custom-built homes. This position prepares and paints interior and exterior residential surfaces, applies protective and decorative finishes, and maintains clean, orderly work areas. The Painter completes work with attention to detail, quality craftsmanship, job-site safety, and project schedules.

Basic Duties:
  • Clean walls and other surfaces to remove dirt, grease, and contaminants and promote proper coating adhesion.
  • Prepare surfaces by scraping, sanding, priming, and sealing as needed for the selected finish.
  • Fill cracks, holes, and joints with caulk, putty, plaster, or other appropriate fillers using caulking guns, putty knives, and related tools.
  • Protect surrounding surfaces, flooring, furnishings, and equipment with drop cloths, plastic sheeting, masking materials, and other coverings.
  • Move furniture and equipment as needed; remove and reinstall non-wired fixtures, hardware, pictures, doorknobs, and switch covers as appropriate. Coordinate any work involving electrical connections with authorized personnel.
  • Mix and match paints and finishes; apply paint, varnish, shellac, enamel, and other coatings to walls, floors, doors, cabinets, and other designated surfaces.
  • Select appropriate application tools and techniques to achieve consistent coverage and a high-quality finish; inspect completed work and perform touch-ups as needed.
  • Work safely from ladders, scaffolding, and other approved staging to access elevated or difficult-to-reach areas.
  • Select and pick up paint, materials, and supplies from vendors in accordance with project specifications and company direction.
  • Maintain neat work areas; clean brushes, tools, and equipment and properly store or dispose of materials in accordance with product instructions and applicable requirements.
  • Follow company and governmental safety rules, use required protective equipment, and follow safe handling and ventilation procedures for paints, coatings, and related products.
  • Coordinate with the General Manager, coworkers, and subcontractors to complete projects accurately and on time; perform other related duties as assigned.
Qualifications:
  • Five to ten years of painting experience.
  • Solid knowledge of commercial and/or construction painting techniques, including surface preparation, coating selection, and finish application.
  • Skill in using painting and preparation tools, including brushes, rollers, caulking guns, scrapers, and sanding equipment.
  • Ability to follow project instructions, product directions, and job-site safety procedures.
  • Valid driver’s license and reliable transportation to assigned job sites.
  • Conscientious work habits, strong attention to detail, and commitment to quality workmanship.
  • Ability to work independently on assigned tasks and collaborate effectively with coworkers and subcontractors.
Physical Requirements and Work Environment:

The position involves physical work at active residential construction and remodeling sites, both indoors and outdoors. Essential duties require the ability to perform the following activities, with or without reasonable accommodation:

  • Stand and walk for extended periods; bend, kneel, crouch, reach overhead, and perform repetitive arm and hand movements during 8- or 10-hour shifts.
  • Climb and work from ladders, scaffolding, and approved staging with the balance and coordination needed to perform assigned tasks safely.
  • Lift and carry materials weighing 80 pounds, using appropriate assistance or equipment when needed for safe handling.
  • Use the manual dexterity needed to prepare surfaces, handle tools, and apply detailed, consistent finishes.
  • Work outdoors in varying weather conditions and temperatures, subject to safe working conditions, job-site procedures, and product application requirements.
  • Work around dust, noise, paint odors, vapors, and other typical construction-site conditions while following required ventilation and protective measures.
